I could take the easy way out and just suggest the reader simply check the tracklisting...but no - a few words are well deserved. This bargain compilation "almost" traces 60's music from around '64 up until '69...but is not loaded up with the usual/obvious tracks.
Hitting off with the original version(a bit of a rarity) of The Nashville Teens' Tobacco Road it moves & weaves its way through Nugget(y) - The Barbarians, The Sonics, The Seeds...the AM radio sounds of the Searchers, the Bobby Fuller Four....the transitionary - The Byrds(5D), Nazz & Cream....moving slowly but surely towards, lets call it FM Radio territory, The Allman Brothers, The Electric Flag, Van Morrison & Blind Faith. Special mention goes to the inclusion of Procol Harum's A Salty Dog. You can sense the 70's( the good stuff) was just around the corner. The sound is good, 22 songs in chronilogical order, interesting notes and simply a breadth of fresh air in the world of '60s compilations. Worth also checking out the other Renaissance vols. |
