Good stuff..., March 16, 2007
This review is from: Time-Life Music: Guitar Rock Classics Collection (Audio CD)
I bought this album after a late-night infomercial many years ago, and I have enjoyed listening to it ever since. It is exactly what the title suggests, a collection of guitar rock classics, from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Some of the best songs on this album include Santana's "Oye Como Va," Boston's "More Than a Feeling," and the Scorpions "Rock You Like a Hurricane." There are also classics from The Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Bad Company, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
What kept this album from receiving five stars was its inconsistency. For instance, I personally think that David Bowie's "Fame" is an excruciating, wretched song and totally out of place on this disc. Other songs, though decent, that seemed strangely inappropriate were "Easy Livin," "Stone Cold Fever," "(I Know) I'm Losing You," and "Rock of Ages."
Of course, much of this is personal taste, but I just found this album to be slightly erratic. Nonetheless, it does include some fantastic classic rock songs, and I enjoy listening to it. You could probably do better, but I know that you could do worse than to get this collection of guitar rock classics.
