Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Even though it includes some of the same songs, this isn't the Time-Life Christmas collection advertised annually on TV. It's actually a budget version of that anthology, and not a bad deal at all. Some may argue it's missing the two Elvis Presley tracks found on the three-CD TV version. Others will contend that any self-respecting Christmas music aficionado probably already owns (or should own) Elvis's wonderful '57 Christmas Album. What's attractive about this one is it gathers a lot of classic singular performances in one place--a tad too much Bing Crosby, perhaps, but also the original hit versions of "Jingle Bell Rock," Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby," Burl Ives's "Holly Jolly Christmas," and the Drifters' "White Christmas" (the blueprint for Elvis's version). This is a terrific cross section of seasonal sounds. --Bill Holdship

Christmas music lovers, you've found your collection. Much like the excellence of 'Ultimate Christmas,' Time-Life's 'Treasury of Christmas' should be a vintage favorite. Popular songs by Perry Como, Gene Autry, Andy Williams, and Judy Garland provide a goldmine of heartwarming holiday favorites. Some may find the collection to contain too much Bing, but I personally think that's an asset--rather than a liability. "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is a magnificent gem. Bing's voice soars to the star with spare but excellent accompaniment that provides an excellent alternative to the perennial "White Christmas". The highlights are essential: Dean Martin's "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!," Burl Ives "Holly Jolly Christmas," Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad," The Beach Boys "Little Saint Nick," and the original favorite version of "Jingle Bell Rock" all assemble a thoughtful, vintage stocking stuffer for any C.D. collection. The lesser songs are all as mellow and accomodating as a roaring fire and a cup of egg nog or hot buttered rum. If you go no further, and want just one Christmas album, this is the one to get. Unless you like a mixture of the progressive and the traditional, then 'Ultimate Christmas' is the C.D. to buy. Then, again, most people would do well to have both. I have no regrets.

Review for ASIN: B00005NOZH

Everyone is looking for that large set with 21 songs on Disc 1 and 22 songs on Disc 2 - I wish I could post the external [...] address, but of course you can't do that. I looked on the Time Life site for this set and when I found it listed, there were a lot more songs on their listing.

Go to Time Life and search for "Time Life Treasury of Christmas", look closely at the song listing. If you look half way down the songs on Disc 1 you'll see where these 12 songs are listed. The missing songs, the first half of Disc 1 is being sold here under ASIN:B00006D2T8;Time-Life Music: Treasury of Christmas - Holiday Memories. So confusing!! What is the deal here??

Note there is a Vol 2, that is shown here on Amazon under ASIN:B000LI8H24;The Time-Life Treasury of Christmas Vol.2, they don't give you a list of the songs in that listing, but again if you go to Time Life you'll find it there. Vol 2 should have 24 songs on Disc 1 and 23 on Disc 2. But the listing here, since they don't give you a list of the songs, you really don't know what you're getting do you? Especially considering how they've messed up on Vol 1 of this set.

Amazon really needs to look into what is being sold, especially when they offer it as a Prime item. People will think that Amazon itself is selling it when in fact I am sure it's being sold for someone else by Amazon.

Buyer Beware! An for heavens sake don't try to buy the MP3 download - it takes you to something completely different from this CD set. At least it did that to me.

This was a holiday present my first Christmas on my own. It rekindled all my favorite childhood memories of this special season. One of the best collections around with songs everyone will remember. Soon you'll have the family and friends singing along.

I enjoy Méhdi"Christmas Treasures",Charlie Brown Christmas ,Mannheim Steamroller etc.and this a magnificent production that I also enjoy just as much. Time-Life Treasury of Christmas: Holiday Memories collects 24 classic tracks of the holiday genre spread out over two discs, including "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" by Nat King Cole, "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt, "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake, and "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Many of these artists will appeal to a broad range of ages, making it perfect for family gatherings.

I am 36 and my sister is 41 and we absolutely ADORE this one. We remember all of these from our childhood and it brought back so may wonderful memories. Bing Crosby, Dean Martin - we played my parents' "albums" over and over at Christmas and are so happy to each have this in our homes. I am so glad these songs were a part of my childhood. Definitely a must have!

Classic Christmas songs. Makes you remember Christmas when you were at little kid. I Play it all the time for my kids and hopefully they will play these songs by the great artists for their kids. As we learn with age -classic never goes out of style.
