4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the purchase
This is definitely not the collection for die-hard 80's fans. The tracks on the CD can be found elsewhere. For a soundtrack CD, it's average: not bad, not great. What gave the CD the extra star was Craig Robinson. His version of "Jesse's Girl" is a little rough, but fun for movie fans. What made the CD worth buying, for me, was Craig Robinson's version of The Black...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Review
I own a great deal of 80's soundtracks and pretty much every song on this album. It would have been nice to see some of the original hits instead of all the remixes and covers. If you've seen the movie you laughed your butt off, and probably noticed the song I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz. If you want that song you'll have to go to the soundtrack for Son of Rambow which also...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 80's Soundtrack Since The Wedding Singer, March 23, 2010

The best thing about the Hot Tub Time Machine soundtrack is its diversity. From Pop classics and Post-Punk to Rock and old-school Rap, this album has it all. Throw this CD on, and you're transported back to the days of skating rinks and MTV when they actually played music videos.

One of the more interesting twists on the soundtrack is the inclusion of two covers by actor and stand-up comedian Craig Robinson (from The Office and Pineapple Express). The album includes Robinson's rendition of "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas, and a surprisingly good version of "Jessie's Girl." So maybe Craig Robinson won't win a Grammy like Rick Springfield did, but it's a nice little addition to the soundtrack.

While the movie largely takes place in 1986, and most of the songs are from the early 80's, a few tracks weren't released until later (Push It in '87, Louder than a Bomb in '88). Which doesn't change how great of a soundtrack this is, it's just worth mentioning.

A great album to put on if you throw an 80's Retro Party, or just to listen to in the car if you miss the classics. Definitely one to add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retro Finish, April 15, 2011

Not too long ago I rented and watched, "Hot Tub Time Machine." Being a child of the 60's, the 80's was my college era so, needless to say, the music in the film brought back a score of memories that I've long lost sight of. Thus, it became an obsession to buy the Soundtrack to the film. Having been a sounds and flix critic on radio I have to give this soundtrack 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. In other words, Damn near perfect, y'all! Every song on the soundtrack is an original with the exception of Craig Robinson's version of, "Jesse's Girl", but even it was tastefully done and extremely close to the original so I doubt that most listeners would notice a difference.

4.0 out of 5 stars 14 musical icons of the 1980s and a surprise!, March 25, 2010
This review is from: Hot Tub Time Machine (Music From The Motion Picture) (Audio CD)
The premise of Hot Tub Time Machine, four friends transported back to 1986, provides an opportunity to trot out some of the decade's popular classics for this soundtrack album. One realization gained from the variety here is that the stultifying affect of MTV at decade's end wasn't nearly as overpowering at decade's start, from which many of these tracks are selected. The tunes include boundary pushing rap, Australian pop, revivalist ska, synthpop, hair metal, post-punk, and alternative rock that dates to a time when there was rock to which one could be an actual alternative. It will remind you that once-upon-a-time MTV was a channel for artists rather than a brand to be worn. One of the film's actors, Craig Robinson, performs a credible cover of Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" and transports the Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get it Started" back to the `80s where it fits surprisingly well. Caution: these songs are addictive and may lead you to search out the bigger fixes of Hip-O's I Want My 80's Box! and Rhino's even more extensive Like Omigod! The `80s Pop Culture Box (Totally). After all, everybody must Wang Chung tonight. [©2010 hyperbolium dot com]

Kind of a disappointment. The "Jessies Girl" on this soundtrack is the recording from the movie, not the original Rick Springfield version.
