5.0 out of 5 stars Beatles, Beach Boys, Jellyfish Fans - BUY THIS NOW
A terrific follow-up to "A Little Trip," "Time Machine" never fails to delight the listener with instantly memorable melodies and brilliantly considered arrangements. If you love The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Jellyfish, Fountains of Wayne, XTC -- and you know who you are -- it is inconceivable to me that you will not love Vinyl Kings. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not "A Little Trip, Part 2" but still very good
(Note: I've edited my original review and I would upgrade to 4 stars if the site would let me.) My original 2-star review was written after I'd heard Time Machine only once and I had not given the songs a fair shake at growing on me, plus I was expecting another collection of songs that would hit me like A Little Trip did (I remember hating Sgt. Pepper's the first time I...

Let's face it it seemed like the Vinyl Kings had painted themselves into a corner with their first album "A Little Trip" which evoked the Beatles with out copying them, a favorite CD of mine (thank goodness, if it was an LP I would have worn it out.

So here they are, having painted themselves in a corner so what do they do? They smash the window and take you out to the country and into new fields (and not all of them strawbery).

"A Little Trip" gets you into things quickly with the title song, you know where you are going. With "Time Machine" a few rides are needed to appreicate all that is going on around you. Ultimately I find it an album that has to be peeled back slowly to appreciate it all.

Like the Amazon review says there are a lot of different styles being thrown on the table, the Beatles are there long with the Beach Boys and some hints of the Kinks and the Who making it to the party.

You are going to have to buy a lot more CDs to find one as enjoyable as this one. So take a little trip in your time machine. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance, August 30, 2008

This album shows how unfair the fickle world is. This deserves to be a HUGE hit. Unfortunately it will only ever be known to the few people lucky enough to stumble over it. If you haven't already bought it do it now!!

This is a group of consummate pros who do a very credible job of immitating (mostly) the Beatles and the Beach Boys. The best of the imitators. I'd say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl Kings . . The Beatles, Beach Boys Revisited, November 17, 2006
This review is from: Time Machine (Audio CD)
After hearing this for the first time I was just amazed how clear and how good it made me feel as I remember hearing the Beatles when their records were released back in the sixties. You have got to purchased this if you are a John Paul George & Ringo fan!!!!!!! I was just simply blown away as I listed to the tracks and how if you get immersed in the song and you think wow is this the Beatles oh no!!!

It is just to good and the way the harmonize the Beatles and Beach Boys tracks or should I say sound into the same track which is the best of both worlds. . . .It is too bad that that never happed.

I would rate this a five star and all of my friends who have heard this feel the same way. It is a must have in any collection. We all under estimated the Beatles as they were way ahead of their time. Also you have to look into the other album that they have released which is called: A Little Trip

Again you will be blown away as it sounds like the Sgt. Pepper's album but with a mix in it.

Great Music!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up to " A Little Trip", May 28, 2006
This review is from: Time Machine (Audio CD)
It's hard to have an album thats great to be followed by another equally great piece. If you have the first album and love it, then I cannot see why you wouldn't love this one too. It's very well produced and is great ear candy! Get it you won't be disapointed.

I came upon this group completely by accident, and have been obsessed with this album ever since! The fresh mix of Beach Boys, Beatles, and alternative, along with sensational melodies and hooks and smart lyrics is irresistable. I would say this is a perfect companion piece to the female-vocals of Saint Etienne's Good Humor - delightfully inventive, but purposefully derivative, pop music that makes you truly tap your toes and smile, sometimes wistfully.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not "A Little Trip, Part 2" but still very good, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Time Machine (Audio CD)
(Note: I've edited my original review and I would upgrade to 4 stars if the site would let me.) My original 2-star review was written after I'd heard Time Machine only once and I had not given the songs a fair shake at growing on me, plus I was expecting another collection of songs that would hit me like A Little Trip did (I remember hating Sgt. Pepper's the first time I ever heard it!) So, after getting over my initial disappointment and playing the CD a couple more times, I realized there's some gems to be heard here including "Mr. Greedyman", "One Love At A Time" (wonderful Beach Boys' sound & harmonies, great song), and "Your Turn To Shine" is a really pretty song -non-Beatlesque- but a great song that's more in the pop/country vein (seeing as how these guys are Nashville-based it only stands to reason that influence would creep in to some degree). These three songs are the best on the disc and just for them, I do recommend this new disc. Just don't expect it to hit you with the same power as A Little Trip did. This is not another "new Beatles album" but it does do a nice job of displaying the great collective musical talents of these guys who must have had a ball paying tribute to their musical heroes of the glory days of pop radio.
