Thorough guide if just visiting Buenos Aires,
By Reader (Atlanta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time Out Buenos Aires (Time Out Guides) (Paperback)
If you're just visiting Buenos Aires and not elsewhere in Argentina, this guide is great. The information is fairly up to date. However the publication date is a bit misleading. Timeout republished the 2d edition, with this ISBN in 2005, but it is the same information from Timeout's mid-2004 publication. Timeout just used a different publisher, thus a different ISBN number and misleading new publication date. I still recommend this book, just be aware that some information has changed since 2004. Also, if you could find a good used copy under ISBN 014101363X for less money, you will be getting the same information. Fortunately it will be a lot of information and still will be useful.

After searching through many guidebooks, I settled for TimeOut, and let me tell you, I am glad that I did.
This book gave me everything I needed to know about beautiful Buenos Aires. The places that my Argentine friend recommended to me were all listed in this book, so that shows you how good it is! Definitely must buy this before going to Buenos Aires, or Argentina itself. Great read, great pictures, great food in Argentina! :)

Best, Most in Depth Buenos Aires Guide Available,
By chp (Miami) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time Out Buenos Aires (Time Out Guides) (Paperback)
The title really says it all. There is not another guide out there that goes into as much detail about everything one would want to know when visiting Buenos Aires. It's more current, filled with more information, and simply much cooler than the Lonely Planet city guide to BsAs, it's closest competition.
It also can be effectively used for a longer-term vacation. For example, the book details which gyms to go to, which grocery stores to shop at, and what neighborhoods would be nice to call home for a while (as opposed to just visit for the day). The book was published in the summer of '06 and seems very relevant and up to date. There are web addresses for most everything and most of these sites are can be viewed in English. Most useful were the many websites for help with vacation apartment rentals. There are many pictures of things one would actually want to look at and good use of color and graphics throughout. There's an overall youthful feel to the writing. The discussion on excursions from the city is a nice plus, as well. I definitely recommend this and other Time Out guides.

Good read - lots of useful suggestions. Very good on the barrios or neighborhoods.
Somewhat out of date - e.g. the Sydney Opera House style nightclub referenced in the section on the docks has apparently been burned out for several years.

Buenos Aires on 300 pages,
By cemolo "Nicolas" (Washington D.C.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time Out Buenos Aires (Time Out Guides) (Paperback)
To start off, I have to say that I usually do not write any reviews for items purchased on Amazon, but for the Time Out Buenos Aires Guide I really have to make an exception.
This Book is just fantastic. I moved to Buenos Aires for the summer and I had never been nor had any idea of what the city would be like. With this Guide book I have been to the most amazing and most interesting places. Putting the sightseeing apart this book is so up-to-date on the restaurant, bar and nightlife scene that I have never been out of place. I have met so many interesting people in only 2 weeks because of this book. It just makes a huge difference having an idea of where to go and what to do at any certain day. So if you are planning on going to Buenos Aires for whatever reason, do yourself and your experience a favor and buy this book. It's an overall well-rounded guide, that gives you Buenos Aires on paper.

Great book, best to use it in conjunction with another for maps.

Poorly Written, Bad Maps,
By
This review is from: Time Out Buenos Aires (Time Out Guides) (Paperback)
This guide does not come close to comparing with Lonely Planet. It is poorly written and gives little or no information about museums and city sites other than their address and hours of operation. The map is also poorly done and it is difficult to use in locating restaurants and museums. Buenos Aires is an amazing city so I suggest buying a worthy guide book, not this one.

I'm ordinarily staunchly loyal to Lonely Planet, but the Buenos Aires guide reviews were so awful that I though I'd give something else a try. The first thing I noticed was that it's full of advertisements. In fact, nearly half of all the photos contained are ads. And the list price on the back is $19.95! Man, if I'd paid that much for this book, I'd be furious. It also seems a bit flimsy, like a thick pamphlet they might give away for free at a tourist office, althout I haven't used it in the city yet so I suppose we'll see how it holds up. The writing, though, is on par with the Lonely Planet guides I have (good) with a somewhat more of a focus on high end establishments.
All in all, it isn't bad by any means, but I certainly wouldn't pay full price for it.

Helpful, insightful, up-to-the-minute, handy. Time out was even informative to my friends who live in BA. Good guide to a great city! Go visit, and take Time Out for the city and Rough Guide for the country. Best beef ever!

Time Out Buenos Aires delivers the feel of the city along with suggestions of where to go, what to do and how to get there. It provides a sense of the spirit as well as offerings of the city. The descriptions are enticing.
