Probably The Greatest Greatest Hits Collection Of The 1960's, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Time Peace: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The total exuberance and greatness of this garage band of New Yorkers in rocking out with their white eyed soul influences is all on display here..they were totally up their on a perch that is theirs alone. A Time Peace of an album that is more than relevant today.
When this album came out The Rascals were at the top of their game...selling rapidly due to the inclusion of that lovely, MAJESTIC single, A Beautiful Morning, here on this CD is the psychedelic artwork, all reproduced on this good sounding disc, as well as that fine photo of the band on their way to Indian Nirvana when commercial success and soul searching confused things despite the great single, People Got To Be Free, which does not belong on this compilation..The Rascals 2nd phase began with the 2 LP Freedom Suite which hopefully Rhino will release on CD as well as all the other later Cd's...
The 2 CD set The Rascals Anthology is another great anthology, offering superior sound covering their entire recorded career, while their 1st 3 Cd's, The Young Rascals (total note for note classic), Collections (fusing out into newer terrain) and Groovin, (a psychedelic masterpiece) all have good sound...The Ultimate Rascals collection is a showstopper BUT better sound is available on The Anthology as well as Time Peace..

The Rascals Got Soul, September 19, 2006
This review is from: Time Peace: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I concur with the other reviewer, this is one of the best of the best from the turbulent 60's. There's a lyricism and an innocent romanticism to the Rascals' music so sorely lacking in today's pop scene. Great soul and R&B touches to these selections, too (Lonely Too Long sounds like something from Motown). The musical arrangements are thoughtful, the lyrics sensitive, the vocals from the heart. Just a wonderful balance of the nice things that the 60's left with us!

All the stuff... minus one., February 16, 2006
This review is from: Time Peace: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
What a great disc. I wish Warners or Rhino or someone would remaster it and add the missing "People Got to Be Free".
That being said this is still an awesome disc of blue eyed soul. Felix and Eddie are great singers, but their secret weapon was drummer Dino Danelli; check out "A Girl Like You": it both rocks and swings!
Grab this if you can, because the only "official" version is a Rhino best of that includes their cruddy Columbia hippy dippy songs.
