A Fantastic Blend of Hard-Driving Jazz with Beautiful Bossa Sounds,
This review is from: Time Piece (Audio CD)
This is one of those albums that sparkles all over. With Bob Shepard's torrid sax solos and Louden's masterfull play on the upright bass, the music moves from quick boisterous melodies to sweet bossa nova music voiced by an angel. Could not put this one away until I heard it several times over and over again. One of the best new albums of 2007, a Grammy contender for sure. Edward Blanco (Allaboutjazz, Ejazznews and Jazzreview)

Music That Will Enrich Your Soul,
This review is from: Time Piece (Audio CD)
What to call Morrie Louden? Artist/Master Bassist/Master Composer? MONSTER/Musician? All of it, and more. You won't use Time Piece for background music; you can bet on that. You'll sit down to listen... and feel... with your eyes closed---and you'll go on a most fantastic musical journey. There are no "throw-away tunes" on this CD. Each one takes you to a different part of your self---your core---that you didn't know existed. Yes---speed--incredible ACCURATE speed... You want unbridled musical playfulness? You want poignancy? You got it! {:+} Yes; Morrie Louden is a gifted artist. This music won't remind you of any other music you've heard. I guess I'll call it "potato chip music"; there's no way in the world to listen to this CD just once, at the first sitting. You'll listen again... and again, to all of it---and come away so much richer for the incredible experience. Morrie Louden---your music and your playing are gifts to the universe. Many thanks.Kharyn Leigh

Beautiful melodies--Intense jazz,

If you love jazz, you'll love this CD. When I first heard this music I had a range of emotional responses--furrowed brows, huge smiles, laughing out loud in amazement, and yes, even crying; but through every tune a bobbing head to the mind blowing clave rhythms, the speed and fluidity in the extraordinary bass technique, and the freshness of the compositions. Morrie Louden has his ears and fingers on the pulse, spirit, spontaneity, and ferocious expressive power of jazz! He's gathered well-known jazz greats and put together a CD with something for everyone, so if you only buy 1 jazz CD this year, make sure it's Time Piece.

You Will Love It,
This review is from: Time Piece (Audio CD)
Whether you're a jazz fan or not, you will love this CD by Morrie Louden. The music is soothing yet stimulating, and each track takes you on a unique journey. Several tracks feature vocals by Gretchen Parlato that will melt you in your seat. There is some incredible piano and of course Morrie on bass. This CD delivers on all fronts, it's intelligent and sophisticated, yet reaches heart and soul. You will not be disappointed!

Amazing bass playing and great tunes,

I've loved the album since I first heard it. A review in JazzScene magazine says it even better than I can: "This guy could be the next bass virtuoso in our midst. His playing is sometimes furiously fast, and his up tempo (and I MEAN up tempo) runs by you at near 'sheets-of-sound' velocity. And yet he turns the table around and writes haunting, expressive ballads."
