5.0 out of 5 stars Why dont we have more bands like this? June 6, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Some of the slow tracks deter from the energetic explosion of amazing layers of music. You are easily going to be playing this album on repeat... Oh and how I wish music like this would catch on to the point of turning mainstream music upside down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic and Accessible Emo-Rock June 4, 2014
Format:Audio CD
"Time In Place" is the national debut on Tooth and Nail records from the intriguingly named band, Artifex Pereo. After a little research I found out that their name is based off of the Emperor Nero's famous last words: "qualis artifex pereo" which translates: "As what kind of artist do I perish?" After listening to their unique music packed with philosophical thoughts and questions, the name Artifex Pereo could not be more appropriate.

Most of the album is filled with fast paced and brutal songs. These songs draw strong influences from the dramatic emo-packed instrumentation of the band Emery and the sporadic guitar work of As Cities Burn. There is less screaming than an Emery album, but despite this they reach a similar intensity in their songs. These include "No Stranger To Worry", "To Listen And Say Nothing", "Hands of Penance", "Annica", "Laugh & The World Laughs With You ", "The Straight & The Winding Way", and "Cut Sign". They are very dramatic songs that start off abruptly, and let up very little until the song comes to an equally abrupt ending. They are filled with soaring guitars, swirling drums, dynamic vocals, and oddly enough, a Hammond organ.

The monster of an opener, "No Stranger To Worry", sets the tone of the album. The first lines of the song start us off pondering these thoughts: "Have you heard the myth of men that predict their own death like a score? / How could one depict such a prophecy from a world so scarred?" We are then taken through a journey of the lead singer's thoughts on thoughts on death and ultimately how he is really just scared of leaving this earth on a bad note. Although lyrically this is a dark song, it never feels depressing. It is arguably the best song off the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing May 27, 2014
Format:Audio CD
This album is enjoyable from start to finish. AP's unique writing style is truly highlighted in this debut album. I have always enjoyed their music, and this label debut is no exception. The heavy set tones of the drums accentuate their flowing melodies, and as always their songs each tell a story. Their syncopated guitar riffs, and harmonizing vocals make this a must listen for anyone who wishes to see talented musicianship return to today's rock scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal album July 17, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Phenomenal album! Artifex Pereo does a tremendous job of blurring the lines of aggressive rock, jazz, with a hint of folk and if you don't believe it to possible listen for yourself. Buy this album and then buy several more and send them to your friends. This is the album you will grab everytime you can't decide what genre of music you want to listen to or if you just don't want to settle for something that sounds like everything and everyone else.
