INTENSE, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Time & Place (Reis) (Audio CD)
Possibly one of the most intense vocal recordings ever made. Lee is battling 'hellhounds', being chased by demons; he works through it all in a gospel soul blues rock mix. This is raw tight and very intense music. Recorded in '71, and augmented with singles recorded in the 60's through the 70's. Propelled by a tight rhythm section he screams, whoops, and hollers his way to deliverance.
Fans of James Carr, Otis Clay, and Wilson Pickett should enjoy this CLASSIC.

lee moses. from the atl.
where do i start? my first job, at age 14, was working for jesse boone sr in albany, ga (google him). this was one of his favorite albums. that immediately generated interest, since mr. boone was a legend himself in the soul and r&b game, producing many, many, many soul and gospel classics, and eventually buying the same stax/volt 48-track board that put out many isaac hayes/carla thomas/bar-kays etc. classics from the past for his own productions.
i eventually wound up getting a traveling job, and although ive dug in mad record shops from oregon to new mexico to denver to portland, maine, i had never run across this record. so i finally gave up, head hung low, and copped the reissue.
wow. is all i can say. without going into each song, this record will rock your world. for lovers of otis redding, james brown, wilson pickett, and the old southern soul sound (hell, even northern soul sound): you will prize this.
having met many hip-hop producers (madlib, questlove, diamond d, ray murray from organized noize, etc.) in my life, most all agree.
this is the pinnacle. word.
