I stayed up all night,
By Doug B (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
Time to Say Goodbye is an outstanding gumshoe crime drama. Rodney Ellis would be comfortable in the company of Phillip Marlowe, Spenser, or Travis McGee. There is nothing better than a book that keeps you up all night. This is one of those books that makes your heart race as you get closer and closer to the end. I hope Ms. McEnulty is working on the next adventure for Rodney Ellis. A fantastic read!

A meaningful, entertaining read!,
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
It's so very nice to have a good detective story based somewhere else than New York or Washington. The South has its share of sordid characters and lifestyles. MacEnulty has grabbed onto a noir genre solid character that will make a good stories for a long while. There's more to this novel than one time through provides. Her writing has substance that puts her writing in a class by itself.

This book is thrilling and moving. The characters are very likable, and the plot hangs together with a very satisfying ending. I sincerely hope Dr. MacEnulty continues in the crime fiction genre, as she excells at it. Dee Lambert

Many experiences, lots of feelings,
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
As soon as I picked up this book, I felt like the authors spoke to me and for me. I identified with their crises and experiences. It made me feel like a part of a small community who has an aging parent and is going though tough times. I laughed, I cried and I read and read. At times, I said to myself, "How did she know i was feeling that way?" I guess we are not so alone. thanks pat, you helped me a lot.

Time to say goodbye,

This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
Looking for a great summer read? In Time to say goodbye, Pat MacEnulty leads you from the underworld of dysfunctional families, drugs and murder to the middle class suburban family so typical in today's south. Not only is this book an entertaining novel of crime full of colorful characters; it contains a message of hope. That message is that no matter how badly our loved ones hurt us or let us down, there are others who care and through them we can learn to love again.

Time to say hello to detective Rodney Ellis,
By Darryl "Avid reader" (Pineville NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
Pat MacEnulty is a novelist, a WRITER, so it isn't surprising that her first detective novel is longer on character than the usual page-turners in the genre. This literary quality is a very good thing indeed: it made the characters and settings live this reader's memory long after I finished the book.
It's complicated enough that I had to start it over rather than read it in bits and pieces; but when I had the time to read it straight through, within 24 hours, it was all the better. There is REAL STRUCTURE to the book and to the characters--the interesting, vivid, complicated, not-unlike-us characters who people it. Not only are the characters developed ("round") but so are the vividly-described settings--the atmospheric places, from North Carolina to Florida, where the action takes place. And ACTION there certainly is--enough murder and mayhem, and lust and revenge, to keep the attention of any fan of detective fiction, and an absorbing story that takes place over a period of nearly two decades. There are complex family dynamics of the sort one doesn't often encounter in a detective novel. There is believable dialogue as well--nothing formulaic anywhere in fact--and a moral or two among the immorality of it--and even some old-fashioned justice. I recommend it highly.

I liked this book. I thought it had great characters and a good story. It was the first time I ever rooted for a convicted felon. It's a good beach book!

I absolutely loved this book. I was unable to put it down. This is the second novel by Pat MacEnulty that has captured my attention. Her first book Sweet Fire, was a master piece and an amazing first book.
Time to Say Goodbye is a page turner. I was constantly surprised at the twist and turns of the story line. Just when I thought I had it figured out she twisted the plot again. I am a fan, I will wait with great anticipation for her next book. I recomend this book to anyone who loves a who done it. You will be captivated and entertained from the first to last page. #1 Fan....Renee' Leboa

Something Special,
By
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
I read a lot of books, and average of two a week. Many of those are mysteries. This book is something special. You don't just know the dective or the victim, you know all the charachters and their motivations. I especially love the relationship between the main chachter and her dauthter and her son. I would love the read something else by this author where she explore the mother child relationship further. This book is exciting and fast paced and the conclusion will leave your breathless.

A thrilling ride,
By A southern reader "Vicki" (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time to Say Goodbye (Paperback)
"Time to Say Goodbye" is a fast-paced, crime noir that keeps you guessing from beginning to end. Patsy Palmer, a prison escapee formerly known as Vera Lee, starts her life anew with a new identity and is looking over her shoulder as people from her past begin to die or disappear. She is nervous with good reason. She has made a good life for herself and her hidden past threatens to obliterate everything she holds dear. Rodney Ellis, a compassionate detective with good instincts, suspects that a maid's death and a woman's disappearance may be linked to Vera Lee, a memorable young woman he arrested many years ago. We travel with Rodney as he solves the mystery of Vera Lee and Patsy Palmer. We fear with Patsy as she relives a past that she would rather forget. It is a ride that is thrilling and unpredictable and well-worth taking.
