If You Give a Kid This Book, He's Gonna Want Something Better,
By Kristin (Wilmington, DE USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time for School, Mouse! (If You Give...) (Board book)
I love all of the If you Give a Mouse/Pig/Moose/Cat series books, and therefore, I bought this one since my almost three-year-old adores them. However, I was extremely disappointed in this "story." There is absolutely no plot to speak of; the mouse simply cannot find his homework. For one, this book is definitely geared toward little ones with its few words per page and board book design. Most little ones have no idea what homework is yet. But I would have bought into it anyway had it used any of the cute if/then consequences the series is famous for. It doesn't. And several of the illustrations are lifted straight off the pages of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and my toddler son quickly noticed: "Mommy, that's the same picture as in dat book!" he said pointing. My other issue is that the only pictures that aren't exact replicas from the Cookie book are so poorly drawn, I wondered if it was even the same illustrator. I would recommend you save your money and buy one of the other books from the series; this one is a real disappointment in every way.

2 year old loved it!,

I started reading this to my son when he turned 2, and at first, he was o nly interested in the illustration that had a fan depicted. I would read the first 1-2 pages of the book, and he would quickly flip over to his favorite page and then we were done with the book. However, I used to read it to him every day and soon he progressed to actually letting me read the entire story to him. I think this book did a good job of holding his attention and even increasing it a little! We have since moved on to books with more content per page, but this book still remains one of his favorites (the other is goodnight moon- if I had a penny .....I would be a millionaire)
I recommend the entire series of "If you give a ..." books by the same author to parents of 2-3 year olds who are beginning to foray into the world of story-books. This is perfect for the transition from picture books to stories.

A wonderful book for my grandson but a little disappointed because it said the book was in good condition and I don't agree.

Youngsters whose older siblings head off to school are curious. What's it all about?
Long before they are ready to think about what happens at school, the younger brothers and sisters want to know more about getting ready. In that way, the mystery is unraveled in a non-threatening way. An oldest child also needs to start learning about school. Time for School, Mouse! is a great way to begin. If you are a fan of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond, you have probably read If You Take a Mouse to School. Well, that book does create a lot of mayhem. Long before youngsters are ready for that book, Time for School, Mouse!, is just the ticket to laughter and good humor . . . without creating any anxiety. Adults will appreciate this board book. Felicia Bond's drawings cleverly contain little bits and pieces to entertain the person reading the story . . . you! My favorite is when mouse finds his homework and it's covered with solid geometry and various equations. Clearly, this is one smart mouse. The illustrations also have fun with perspective, changing the size of the mouse to either dwarf or to be dwarfed by the mouse's surroundings. It's very cleverly done. Don't be bored with board books. Get this one!

Lovable, adorable, not-quite-organized Mouse, from IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE, is back in this fun board book that's perfect for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
It's time for school, but Mouse is definitely not ready. He can't find his notebook, his pencils, or his homework. It's time to search, and Mouse sure finds a lot of things - his crayons, his doctor's kit, his cookies. But it's time to leave, and there's still no homework in sight! Young children will delight in the further adventures of Mouse, and this would even be a quick, easy story for beginning readers. Reviewed by: Jennifer Wardrip, aka "The Genius"

These books are great. My grandaughter loves them. She's starting Kindergarden and I put together a lunch box filled with goodies. This book was one of them. Nana.

This was bought as a gift, but young children really love these books. They are not too long and have really great themes throught the books that draws kids attention.

WHEN I ORDERED THE BOOK I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GREAT TO READ TO MY NEW FIRST GRADERS. HOWEVER, IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE TYPE MY 15 MONTH GRANDDAUGHTER LIKES, A CHUNKY STYLE BOOK. SO, I GAVE IT TO HER.

I bought this book because it was authored by Laura Numeroff, who wrote the adorable Monster Munchies. It is nothing like MM, and is not only incredibly boring, but has no plot. I will be returning it.
