Editorial Reviews

This sensitive, expressionistr film, the suprise hit of the 1982 Cannes and Taormina Film Festivals, examines Budapest's troubled adolescents of the early 1960's with humor and pasion. The focus is on two men, Denes (Istvan Znamenak) and Gabor (Henrik Pauer), the sons of a freedom fighter who has fled to America. In addition to their family ties, the two share a love for the enchanting Magda (Aniko Ivan), who switches endlessly between them as the brothers follow two very separate paths. Lajos Koltai's bold cinematography with its aquarium-like colors combined with an American pop soundtrack, paints a poignant picture of youth in serach of romance, rebellion, and escape. A reminder that TIME STANDS STILL, but waits for no one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hungarian Movie, July 16, 2007
By
This review is from: Time Stands Still (1982) (VHS Tape)
Set in Hungary the movie spans 1956 to 1968 and focuses on a group of teenagers and how they and the people around them deal with Russian occupation. It's not all doom and gloom. Kids just want to be kids and there are some funny and touching moments to lift the spirits of the audience, maybe even the country... In Hungarian with English subtitles. Great performance by Aniko Ivan.
