5.0 out of 5 stars Ringo's Masterpiece
Anyone who tells you that Ringo Starr's solo work isn't as strong as John, Paul or George, obviously hasn't heard TIME TAKES TIME. In fact, TIME TAKES TIME is in the upper echelon of solo Beatle Releases. This album works on many levels. Mostly, the songwriting is superb. 3.0 out of 5 stars A few fun numbers for fans.
With several producers it's hard for any project to sound "together" and hear we have alot of pop trendiness thrown in the mix: "What Goes Around" "In A Heartbeat", "Runaways" are barely throw-away B-sides. "Don't Know A Thing About Love" is one of a small group of Beatle-esque entries, worth hearing on occasion. However,...

Ringo co-wrote a few songs, and hired a batch of top notch songwriters (Roger Manning from JELLYFISH is one) to pen the others. WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is one of the best and catchiest songs on the CD. Other songs like DON'T GO WHERE THE ROAD DON'T GO, and AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, are among some of the best that Ringo has recorded. The production is brilliant, and Ringo is in great voice as well. The most amazing thing about this CD is that it has held up quite well. After repeated listens, it still sounds fresh and distinctive. This is an album full of melodic and disparate songs. The many stylings (pop, rock, country) work very well. Even though this CD didn't make the Billboard album charts, it is a favorite with critics and is an ESSENTIAL addition to any CD collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ringo's Most Professional Album, October 4, 2000
This review is from: Time Takes Time (Audio CD)
Released at a time in which Ringo's solo work was regarded more as a hobby than a career, "Time" turned out to be Ringo's most serious and musically consistent album. Though there are multiple producers and writers involved, the songs all seem tied by a theme: cautions about life's hard knocks from someone who's been there.

The sound is professional, and Ringo seems to be trying hard to be a real singer here, not just some pal who likes to belt out tunes. It really raised my opinon of Ringo, and I'm glad I have it in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ringo's best?, June 25, 1999

Ringo Starr's TIME TAKES TIME includes no fewer than five excellent tracks: "In A Heartbeat," "Weight Of The World," "I Don't Believe You," "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go" and "After All These Years," the latter two co-composed by Ringo. TIME TAKES TIME's blend of first-rate pop, rock and country makes for what this long-time fan considers the drummer man's best album. Starr avoided his past tendency to use both superstar (including other ex-Beatles) musician-songwriters and remakes of classic oldies for this 1992 CD and came up with a gem the public missed. I thought it was out of print, but now I see Amazon's offering TIME TAKES TIME for a bargain price. Get it.

Ringo Starr is definitely just as much of a legend as his Beatle compadres, and this album proves it. WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is by far the best song Ringo has done since PHOTOGRAPH and IT DON'T COME EASY, but other songs are great as well. Listen to I DON'T BELIEVE YOU and you feel you are listening to the Beatles all over again. Or try IN A HEARTBEAT and you imagine the Beach Boys. DON'T GO WHERE THE ROAD DON'T GO is definitive ELO. Does this mean Ringo is not original? Not at all, it proves Ringo can definitely "get by with a little help from his friends". If you don't have it, BUY IT!!

"Don't Know A Thing About Love" is one of a small group of Beatle-esque entries, worth hearing on occasion. However, there is a blockbuster here: "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go", a solid rocker which should have been a high rotation item for Starr. (I don't recall hearing it once on the radio!). I've purchased albums on the strength of one track, and if you too are so inclined, check out TIME TAKES TIME.

I think this is just one of the great albums for Ringo. I was around when the Beatles were a group. I think he has fared better than ever as a single. I love his voice and his band, so easy on the ears. Hopefully, he will release another one soon. He is the "best" and I listen to his CDs over and over. Thanks Ring Starr.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a "must have"!, March 4, 2001
By A Customer

Every fan of The Beatles and Ringo Starr should own this compact disc. This is the second best release of Ringo's solo career, with his "Vertcal Man" CD being his best. Musically and lyrically, this album is superb. And, of course, it is pure Ringo - which is pure fun! Also, very Beatlesque from time to time. You should own this CD, as well as Ringo's: Vertical Man, Goodnight Vienna, Ringo, I Wanna Be Santa Claus, VH1 Storytellers, Ringo the 4th, Stop & Smell the Roses and the 3-CD set of Ringo & His All-Starr Band Anthology. If you can find it, I would also suggest purchasing the CD single of "Weight Of The World" from his Time Takes Time CD as it contains an unreleased bonus track: Ringo's rocking rendition of "Don't Be Cruel," produced by Jeff Lynne. Search Amazon.com auctions and z-shops for that one! If you purchase only a couple of Rigno CD's and you liked his "Vertical Man" CD, then do yourself a favor and purchase "Time Takes Time."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great drumming,, August 21, 2004
This review is from: Time Takes Time (Audio CD)
Besides the Ringo record back in 73 with the other lads, this is his best CD. Great songs, great production, great drum fills, yes folks great drum fills. "What goes around" has not a complicated drum fill towards the end, but an original fill that fits the song well, and something I would never think about drumming myself. I have to admit that every song on the CD is very good. Upbeat, good rthy guitar work, Ringo voice pretty good, and nice backround singers. It is a little more of a rockin CD compared to some others.
If you like this CD get OLD WAVE as well. Not as strong production wise, but the Joe Walsh song In my car, and Everybody's in a hurry but me with EC on guitar, and John Entwistle is cool. Interesting tom work by Ringo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock Solid Ringo, October 5, 2003
This review is from: Time Takes Time (Audio CD)
This surprising 1992 release from Ringo is easily one of the strongest albums of his solo career. The often maligned former Beatles drummer sounds much more comfortable singing than on previous releases, and his all-star band plays great behind him.

None of the songs here would probably be considered 'hits', but there are several tracks worthy of praise. The opening song "Weight of the World" is just great, as are the love songs "In a Heartbeat" and "All in the Name of Love". Other standouts include "Don't Know a Thing", "What Goes Around", and the reflective "Golden Blunders" (yes, pun probably intended).

This is not a landmark or otherwise classic album, but it is a lot of fun to listen to and fans of the Beatles will find plenty here to enjoy. Ringo is an often underrated contributor to the fab four that changed popular music forever, and on "Time Takes Time" he shows that he's more than capable of carrying an entire album and making it sound pretty darned good.
