5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Race Against Time
I read this book for it's mysteriously beautiful cover. I found the story within it far more mysteriously beautiful than the illustration. I enjoyed the concept of a girl falling in love with a boy, but having the doomed wall of time seperating them. The two main characters intertwine so perfectly that you feel pity knowing their love has forbidden limits. Anna Sophia...

3.0 out of 5 stars I was sorely disappointed!
"Out of Time" was not at all what I expected and I was very disappointed. The story was very unfulfilling and I was left with this feeling that I missed 100 pages somehow. The beginning was very jumbled and I couldn't figure out where Cooney was going. I thought "Out of Time" would pick up *right* where "Both Sides of Time" left off - with Annie in that tornado tunnel...

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Race Against Time, December 19, 1999

I read this book for it's mysteriously beautiful cover. I found the story within it far more mysteriously beautiful than the illustration. I enjoyed the concept of a girl falling in love with a boy, but having the doomed wall of time seperating them. The two main characters intertwine so perfectly that you feel pity knowing their love has forbidden limits. Anna Sophia Lockwood falls in through the force of Time and is brought back to save her dear love, Strat, from a demented asylum. Annie is a courageous heroine driven by love. Strat is a true gentleman "crazy" for love. Together, their unforgettable love breaks barriers. Enough to sacrifice themselves to Time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really really really really really like this book!!!, July 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Time (Paperback)
When I first started reading this book, I looked at it as a chore, but by the time I was on the second or third page, I knew this book was going to be great. I understand this is the sequel to "Both Sides of Time" which I was unaware of at the time, but now I hope to begin reading the first book as well. I would recommend this book to anyone 12 and older. It's very interesting, and it would be a great book for book reports.

5.0 out of 5 stars A continued romance through time, June 27, 2003
By
This review is from: Out of Time (Paperback)
A continued romance through time. Annie Lockwood is from the present world of 1995. Strat is of the past world of 1898. Annie got a taste of falling through time and falling in true love with strat. when Annie falls back to her own time, Strat can only think of the love he shared with Annie. This has however has gotten him imprisoned by those who choose to not understand that Annie had traveled through time. Strat's powerful father and wicked friend has claimed strat to be insane, and for 'his' safety, they have sentenced him to Evergreen asylum. All Annie wants to do is fall back to 1898 to see her love again. When She does, she finds the true meaning why time has let her fall back. Can Annie help save her true love Strat? grab a cup of coffee, get nice and comfy so you can travel trough time with Annie to find out! This captivating story got my attention when I was in high school (1995) and has once more captivated me again. I'm sure you won't be dissatisfied.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was sorely disappointed!, July 7, 2002

"Out of Time" was not at all what I expected and I was very disappointed. The story was very unfulfilling and I was left with this feeling that I missed 100 pages somehow. The beginning was very jumbled and I couldn't figure out where Cooney was going. I thought "Out of Time" would pick up *right* where "Both Sides of Time" left off - with Annie in that tornado tunnel type thing. Everything good about "Both Sides of Time" was left out of "Out of Time." Nothing was accomplished in this novel but frustration! Nevertheless, I'll be reading the sequel to this. I do not recommend.

I cannot tell you how I love this book. I was probably around 14 when I first read it and have read it several times since. I found myself rereading it tonight and as a college student I still find myself enchanted with it. This book is perfect for romantics like myself. The descriptions are breathtaking and the love story is very moving. I cried this time because I am in a long distance relationship and found myself relating all too well with Annie. In short, read this book and its predecessor! I have yet to read the sequels but hope to soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!, November 27, 2000
This review is from: Out of Time (Paperback)
I must confess that I have read this book about 5 times, and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every time. This books has a combination of both action and romance. It draws you into the story, and makes you love the characters. I have shared the book with several of my friends, and all of them have enjoyed it also. You should definitely read the Both Sides of Times, also a fantastic book, before reading this one. I hope this has helped you. I can say that Caroline B. Cooney has created a masterpiece. Read the first two.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the first one!, July 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Time (Hardcover)
I found this book much more enjoyable than the first one in the trilogy. I only have a few complaints. First, it got too sappy and romantic. Second, there were some mistakes. The author mentions some of the 1890's characters visiting the New York Public Library with the lions in front of it, which wasn't completed until 1911, and the Grand Central Terminal with the painting of the night sky on the ceiling, which wasn't completed until 1913. Before that, Grand Central Terminal was a rather simple red brick building.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters, message, and story, January 20, 2012

Out of Time

by Caroline B. Cooney

This is the second book of her trilogy, and again I loved it. I read it through in one night!

At the end of book one, when Annie leaves Strat's 1880 world to return to her own a century later, she has no idea that he will be charged with insanity because of openly discussing Annie's time-traveling ability. Now, when she returns, she is the only one who has even a slim chance of rescuing him from the asylum where he is being confined.

One thing I like about both books (and it seemed to come through even stronger in book II) was the honor and integrity of the hero. Strat is a man who pays his debts of honor--to Katie, the girl in the mental asylum (there only because she was born with a cleft palate) who befriends him. To Harriet, who loves him and needs him more than Annie, the woman he loves. And he loves Annie so much, in fact, that he finds "strength to pull away, and kiss no more..." For him, this is "the definition of love: not touching a woman until marriage." Annie loves Strat for his goodness, even when it means she must suffer because of it.

Cooney continues to compare and contrast the 1880s with the 1980s. Both centuries have their benefits and their downsides. One flaw in Annie's century would sure makes life easier when it comes to making the hard decisions she and Strat have to make. Because in the 1980s, Annie says, "people let you use any excuse. . . .You never had to be responsible for what you did, because it could always be somebody else's fault."

Out of Time has great messages, great characters, and great story.

By Deborah Heal, author of Time and Again: Charlotte of Miles Station.

I purchased this book and have given it my fair review.
