Book Description

August 31, 2004
Here then are eighteen, tales of vampires down through history, from the eras of ancient Greece and Rome up to the modern day, some traditionally horrifying, some poignant, some with a humorous touch. From a vampire blessed by Christ to the truth about the notorious Oscar Wilde to a rollicking tale of vampirism and the Bow Street Runners, these memorable stories by such top tale-weavers as Tanya Huff, P.N. Elrod, and Lois Tilton are sure to appeal to anyone who's ever been bitten by an interest in those mysterious, seductive, and deadly rulers of the night.

More About the Author

I'm best known for writing THE VAMPIRE FILES, a series about an undead vampire Jack Fleming whose first case is to solve his OWN murder! There's 12 books and counting, as well as a number of short stories about his adventures.

In addition to writing, I've gone into editing and had the pleasure of working with the top names in urban fantasy with several award-winning collections.

Lately, I've just signed to edit a new anthology for St. Martin's called HEX SYMBOLS and signed a 3-book contract with Tor for a new steampunk series, ON HER MAJESTY'S PSYCHIC SERVICE. I'm currently working on the first book, THE HANGED MAN.

I consider myself to be danged lucky to have a job that I love this much!

There's a lot more info on my website: www.vampwriter.com and, yeah, you figured it, I'm on FaceBook. Far too often for my own good! Drop in and hang out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy, funny, and fun., July 5, 2005

This review is from: Time of The Vampires (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok, I'm new to reading Vampire stuff, but this was my first. I did the unthinkable and at first judged this book by it's cover. Woops. Thinking it was going to be whiny goth crap (no offense), it turned out to be stories throughout time, starting in Rome and Greece if I remember correctly. However, the stories do not really relate to each other, the book is just set up chronologically by story setting. This was a great idea, and gave the impression of a sub-culture that has existed throughout human history. This also acted as credibility of why there's so much written about vampires, as if these stories were true. Most pieces are set up with the vampires being the protagonist, some are creepy, some funny, all fun. Great stuff, I really enjoyed this one, I hope you will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Collection Of Tales, August 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Time of The Vampires (Mass Market Paperback)
This collection of vampire tales was, on the whole, quite good but had a couple of duds. It seemed that after the first 100 pages the stories got much better. I particularly liked "Voice From The Void", "Death Mask" and "Faith Like Wine". These were great stories. "The Ghost Of St. Marks" didn't interest me much. It was confusing - what was the relationship between Father Brian Stuart and David? It seemed like the author was trying to hint that they were gay, but you were left wondering what was the true relationship between them? I don't know; I just didn't get that one.

Overall, a good collection of stories.

I have only read about half of it so far, but the stories are original takes on vamps. I especially enjoyed "Scent of Blood" by Booth. Her style is extremely engaging.
