Book Description

May 1998

It's the start of her senior year, and Sierra has much to look forward to. So why does it feel as though all she's been doing lately is waiting?

No doubt about it, Sierra Jensen has just had the best summer of her life! But now that she's back from a whirlwind trip to Switzerland with her friend Christy Miller, Sierra isn't quite sure if the school year will turn out as she planned.

The school administration has come down hard with an ultimatum for her buddy Randy, and Sierra must decide who or what's right her friend or the rules.

To make matters worse, her closet friend still isn't talking to her, and all of Sierra's efforts to fix their relationship seem headed for disaster.

The hardest part, though, is waiting to hear from Paul. He hasn't replied to her recent letters, and every day that passes without a response causes Sierra to grow more anxious.

Aren't friendships supposed to go both ways? Will Sierra ever be sure where she stands with these relationships or what God's plans are for them? Only time will tell.

Robin Jones Gunn is the author of The Christy Miller Series, which has sold more than 1 million copies. Get acquainted with Sierra's friend Christy Miller by reading all 12 exciting books.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6 Up-A senior in high school, Sierra has a number of concerns to deal with. As she waits to hear from a potential boyfriend, watches her grandmother become childlike, and struggles with the fact that her best friend is avoiding her, she is surrounded by shifting relationships. Each situation requires patience and a chance to consider how best to apply biblical truth. A friend's conflict with the PTB ("Powers That Be") provides an avenue for exploring the concept of submission to authority. Kids from evangelical Christian backgrounds will be comfortable with insider asides (e.g., Sierra wears a purity ring) and will appreciate her imperfections and successes as a Christian teen. By book's end, the various relationships have progressed enough to create hope, yet there are no "happily ever after" resolutions. Readers new to the series will have no trouble picking up the necessary background to enjoy this entry.

About the Author

Robin Jones Gunn has a passion for communicating God's love to young hearts. She began writing story books for toddlers when her children were little. Her husband, Ross, has been a youth minister for over twenty years. While on a camping trip with teens from their youth group, Robin found some of the girls hiding away in their tent reading a stack of novels they'd brought with them from the library.

Curious as to what could keep these girls away from the sun, surf and guys, Robin borrowed three of their books. As she read them, her heart broke. They were not the kinds of stories these girls should be reading! After the camping trip Robin went to her Bible Bookstore and bought every book she could find that she thought would be interesting for the girls and have a good influence on them. The teens read all the books in a week and asked for more.

"There aren't any more," Robin told them. "That was all I could find." The teens challenged Robin by saying, "Then you write some for us. We'll even tell you what to write!"

Each week Robin would take a chapter and read it to her Sunday School class. And each week the teens would rip it apart, telling her how to rewrite the story. It took two years to complete Summer Promise, the first book in the CHRISTY MILLER series which was released in 1988. The twelve book series has sold over a million copies worldwide. Together with the SIERRA JENSEN SERIES, her books have won the hearts of thousands of girls.

A prolific writer, Robin has authored countless books and articles Many of her books have appeared on the Christian Bestsellers List. She has won the Evangelical Press Association Award for articles, the Mt. Hermon Pacesetter Award, the Lucille Gardner Poetry Scholarship, and the Sherwood E. Wirt Award. size : 5.2 x 7.4

4.0 out of 5 stars time is precious, May 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Time Will Tell (The Sierra Jensen Series #8) (Paperback)
This was an awesome book about waiting for God's perfect will and timing in every aspect of your life. Sierra is beginning her senior year where she will have to make decisions that will affect the rest of her life. Things aren't easy for Sierra anymore, her parents don't make the decisions for her, she has to make them herself. She must make decisions regarding her friends and her relationships with them. She must decide what to do about her "relationship" with Paul, what to do about Amy her former best friend who won't even speak to her, and whether or not to help her friend, Randy, to go againest their school's admistration. Sierra learns about friendship as she learns to take things slowly and carefully with Paul and to give up on her friendship with Amy. She forms a bond with Vicki, a girl she had formerly disliked and thought was snobby. Sierra learns that as she grows up friends will come and go but each will leave special memories in her heart for years to come. How will Sierra's life turn out only time will tell. This book will inspire you to trust in God's timing and to love and honor Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. By reading this book you will learn along with Sierra just how in important reading God's love letter to you(the Bible)everyday is. Sometimes everything will seem like its going wrong but God always has a plan for your life and everything will turn out okay in the end if you just listen to God and follow His plan for your life. God will give you the desires of your heart if you ask Him and do what He asks of you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A long Wait, February 10, 2006
This review is from: Time Will Tell (The Sierra Jensen Series #8) (Paperback)
The book was a well wrote story. It is about a girl name Serria. She is going threw her first real love. She has been writing letters, poems, and stories to a guy named Paul. Paul is the guy she has fell in love with. But the thing is he is in Italy for a whole year or more. Paul is staying with his grandma. Then to top it off it is her senior year at school and she is having troubles doing her homework, keep her room clean, and work all the hour at work.
To make things worst her best friend Amy is not talking to her anymore. Before Serria went to Europe with Christy her other friend, Amy needed her the most. But instead of helping Amy, Serria made things worst by yelling at her for making out with her boy friend.
My favorite part about the book is the bond between Serria and her mom. I wish I was like that with my mom.
My dislike is the long wait between the letter writing. It makes it hard to understand what is going on with people.
I would recommend this book to teen age girls. It will make them think of love and how boys can be.
