Hordes of families come for 47-year-old Serendipity 3’s famous sweets. The oversized menu offers sandwiches, salads, pasta, crépes and casseroles, but the real main course is dessert. While you can’t go wrong with an overflowing banana split or a slice of lemon icebox pie (the creamy filling is like key lime with extra tang), you shouldn’t leave without sampling the famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, a concoction of 14 cocoas, ice and only-the- chef-knows-what-else. The place is cramped and the service less than sunny, but Serendipity 3 remains a classic New York spot.
