Latecia Sonami, Elodie Lauten & Robert Ashley Oh MY!,
By Melissa Tremblay (Hingham, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Time Is Now (Audio CD)
This compilation makes me explode with joy! It is so different from everything else I have ever listened to. I usually like Bjork's remixes, Laurie Anderson, Diamanda Galas and Sleater Kinney, so this was somewhat of a departure for me. I heard it two years ago when my teacher, Kyle Gann, recommended it and lent it to me. This cd has turned my perspective 180 degrees on the bent whistle and squeak of classical music and spoken word to come. Highlights of the cd would include Latecia Sonami's piece. It is especially interesting because of the way her voice fades in and out of sync, not to mention the way she imparts the dialogue, often very personal, as if it were a grocery list. My Pleasure is another song I enjoy because of the sheer erotic force of it. Here is a woman who REALLY lives by the pleasure principle. This song makes you realize how far some people are willing to go in pursuit of the epicurean and beyond. In short, this is an excellent cd. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to expand their vocabulary, musical tastes, and mind in general. Melody Sumner Carahan is a goddess, and the artists on this compilation do her full justice.
