A Very Good Anthology,
By Shayne M. Whitehead "Shayne Michael" (Long Beach) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time3 (Rpkg) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
For its time Times3 was a very good box set. The booklet explaining the history of Journey alone is worth the money. The B-sides included: For You, Good Times, La Raza del Sol, Only Solutions, Liberty, All That Really Matters, With a Tear and Into Your Arms. "For You" featured a lead singer {Fleischman} who's almost a Perry Clone. Fleischman wrote Wheel in the Sky and the song Perry sung when he auditioned for Journey. "Good Times" was Perry's tribute to Sam Cooke that never made any album. La Raza del Sol, Only Solutions and Liberty were out-takes from the Frontier era. Of those songs, Liberty, was by far my favorite out-take. Extended, I think it could have been a big hit. "All That Really Matters" is the lone song from the bands latter era where Perry isn't singing lead vocals. The final two songs "With A Tear" and "Into Your Arms" were meant for the Raised on Radio. The most disappointing part of this Box Set is Perry did not return to add lyrics to these two unfinished songs. They were simply added as insturmentals but when I hear them I always feel that they were meant to be. I also really enjoyed the live version of I'll Be Alright Without You. Of course this box sex excludes material from Trial By Fire because that album was released after the box set was made.

A Great Anthology of My Personal Favorite Band,
By
This review is from: Time3 (Rpkg) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
Time3 is practically every popular Journey song from the very first album to at the time, the most recent "Raised on Radio" although the booklet mentions "Trial By Fire" and "Arrival". It includes anywhere from 3 tracks to 7 from each album up until Raised on Radio. All the tracks are remastered and it includes 10 previously unreleased tracks from various points in the history of the band which later will appear on the re-release of Albums such as "Escape", "Frontiers", "Departure", and "Raised on Radio". The booklet is full of History, Pictures, Discography, and my favorite part of the booklet, song information on the songs and what they're about. The booklet was full of so much history that it passed as a work cited source in a college paper I had to write a few semesters back. The only flaw about this compilation is that it feels very out dated which I wonder if they will possibly release another Journey Compilation that will feature everything from the very beginning to The most recent Revelation Album. I wouldn't be surprised to see a compilation like that within the next 5-10 years. Overall, I recommend it for any Journey fans.

Journey Time 3 boxed set,
By Jose P "singer" (Staten Island,NY) - See all my reviews

I remember buying this boxed set in the early 90's when it came out on cd and cassette i only had a cassette player then and I bought it from the old record clubs i belonged to at the time .I have bought many boxed sets greatest hits of groups over the years and this was one of the best collections of music from a rock band i ever bought.there are most of the classic hits Open Arms Don't Stop Believin Who's Crying Now etc.there are also some bsides which were quite good not filler highlights Liberty Only Solutions from the Tron movie All That Really Matters my favorites and some demos from the bands early days and outakes from later albums and some live songs and the best album tracks from Escape Frontiers etc.the only problem is that there are to many live songs I like the orginals. to get the orginal songs like Wheel In The Sky Lovin Touchin you have to buy the greatest hits cd from the 1980's .it comes with a nice book with history on the band which is a plus.anyway Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers ever and Journey needs to be in the Hall Of Fame there list of hits alone show that they deserve to be included.any fan of Journey would enjoy this boxed set.I give it a 4 rating

good boxset,
This review is from: Time3 (Rpkg) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
A very good boxset. some people might not want all the early stuff.then there is a 2 disk version called essentials,Cd one is the weakest of the three here as it contains many of the bands early recordings when they were more of a jazz rock type band but there are some stand out tracks such as Anyway You Want It and the brilliant Patiently. Cd two is where it really takes off. There are half a dozen live tracks here from the album Captured which are superb and the CD finishes with 7 tracks from Escape which are all brilliant even though now they are nearly 25 years old. CD three continues with more excellent material my favourites being Seperate Worlds and the gorgeous After The Fall. If you are new to Journey or replacing your old LPs this is very highly recommended.

If you can't afford to replace all your old vinyl with the CD updates then this may be the compilation for you. It contains an interesting mix of old (pre-escape) and newer (escape-onwards) material, plus some that don't appear to be included on other albums. I've never been a big fan of the pre "Escape" Journey material, but with multiple listenings one or two of the older tracks have become firmly integrated into my 'favorites' now...My main critisism of this album is the cover. Although it's by the same artist as the Classic "Escape" album, it has a look of a hastily scibbled pre-production version, coloured-in with a *bumper pack* of felt tip pens. ...very shoddy artwork indeed. yeuch! I wouldn't call this a *must have* for Classic Journey fans, but if you're that way inclined, then I'm sure you'll enjoy this 3-CD collection.
