Product Description

Time Wolf Pack is different from the standard version of Time Wolf. While it still maintains all the features like custom policies, overtime tracking, automated accruals, backups and more, Time Wolf Pack has the added benefit of multi-user networking. That means that more than one person can be on the Time Wolf System at the same time. In fact you can have as many people access the software as you want. Moreover, rather than having your employees clocking into the Time Wolf System via one computer, they can clock in & out at their own computer, as long as its connected to the network. Time Wolf Pack is perfect for companies with a network and a need to have the software running on more than one computer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too complex and a waste of time, got no support response, February 4, 2010
By
This review is from: TimeWolf Pack 4.0 Multiuser 1-50 Employees (CD-ROM)
I attempted to find out what exactly this product was before I purchased it, but TimeWolf's website is just has a bunch of marketing crap with no technical details whatsoever. So I ordered it based on a request by the business owner. When I got the product, the installation manual was a jumbled mess that doesn't actually match the installation, and is much more simplified than the product requires.

I installed it on a Windows 2008 server with Exchange 2007 on it. The first thing the product installs is an SMTP server (HUH?!) which, of course, broke SMTP in Exchange 2007. The manual doesn't tell me what the SMTP server is for, nor how to configure it. Then it installs a hefty Oracle database. I honestly have no clue why a network accessible time clock needs all of this crap.

In any case, I called TimeWolf's support to find out how to remove this nonsense from my machine, and the support department is apparently a voicemail box even during business hours. I left two messages and got ZERO return calls.

I did my best to remove this crap and fixed my Exchange server.

I highly recommend avoiding the headache.

I upgraded from TimeWolf Pack 2.13 because there was no longer any support available. I liked the ease of use and administering this product.
TimeWolf Pack 4.0 is totally different - the setup was very complex. It has issues with any other databases and some programs that one may be running - especially Symantec products and any program that uses a database other than Oracle. I had to use an old workstation and setup up TimeWolf as a separate server 'cause I could not (would not) remove numerous programs off my file server. The tech support to get the program installed and working was very good.
After installing on each workstation we noted some graphics issues - it appears that there is overlapping graphics making some of the menu selections unreadable and unavailable to the mouse. This issue has not yet been rectified.
The program actually runs from your browser off one of their servers. It runs much slower than the old program which resided on each workstation and the data was stored on our file server.
The program offers a lot of HR type choices that we don't really need. We use it almost strictly as a time clock for employees.
The price for TW is very good for a network software package; but that low price is deceptive. Your free support is good only for 30 days and then they send an email telling you this and it is another $199 for an annual support package. In addition, the contract that accompanies says that this will be an annual ongoing charge to your credit card.
None of this (regarding the support issue) is disclosed on their website to the buyer. I pointed this out and said this is really a deceptive marketing practice and it really upset me. I have used their prior product for over 8 years.
I feel that they need to put their support information on their website so that when one is shopping around they can compare on a level field.

1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to install, High cost of support, Runs slow, April 1, 2011
This review is from: TimeWolf Pack 4.0 Multiuser 1-50 Employees (CD-ROM)
I consider myself fairly knowledgable when it comes to computers, but you need to be more than an expert to get this thing to run. Despite following their 14 point pre-install process, I have never been able to get the program to work after an install without calling their tech support. We even had a professional tech guy setup our server for us and asked him to try to install it while he was here - he was unable to get the program to run.

Ordinarily I wouldn't have a problem with calling tech support, but if you want any help they charge you $55 per incident. That is a lot, considering the software NEVER runs on install and you are forced to call tech support with each new install.

When we purchased our new server, I installed the software and paid $55 for them to help me get it to run. At this time I was told the software "will not run on a domain controller" (despite the fact that it was currently running on our old domain controller). For the time being I left the software running on the old server, but once we had all programs transferred to the new server I contacted support again for help transferring the software to a new client machine that was not a domain controller. Guess what, they want me to pay another $55 because this is a new incident. Apparently being told that I "cannot run TimeWolf on a domain controller" is worth $55.

Once installed it does keep time, although it often hangs for 5-10 minutes when you are trying to log in. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the network or the software, although none of our other programs running on the server hang like this. Leads to frustration when you are trying to clock in or out for the day and, if you are paying people by the hour, this could cost you $$.
