5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I thought this was a misprint. Now that I received it, it's gotta be a misprint. This timer is so much better than the price. It's so much better than any other quartz clocks available on Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars An adequate timer, leaves a little to be desired
This is an adequate timer, and it does its job. There were just a few things which I found disappointing. First of all, it is larger than I was expecting: 4 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches. This is an adequate timer, and it does its job. There were just a few things which I found disappointing. First of all, it is larger than I was expecting: 4 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches. Second, the sound made when pressing the buttons to switch the timers is not very pleasant; it is a pretty loud and plastic-sounding snap. Thirdly, if you press the buttons halfway down, instead of causing both clocks to stop (which is useful for rules challenges, for example), it causes both clocks to run -- not very useful! You have to flip the power switch on the back off to stop both clocks.

That being said, it is a reasonable clock for amateur use, and the seller was great: very prompt shipment (I placed my order on Sunday and received the product on Wednesday), and they even threw in a battery for free.

Works fine and is quite durable. My only regret is that I should have bought a digital instead. The flags don't drop on the minute, instead they just kind of hang up for anywhere from 15-45 seconds after the time is up.

To begin with, this clock did not work when I received it. This is a huge complaint, but the only one. Return was easy, and once you get one that works, this is a great clock. Action is crisp, and it is simple to use.

The timer stopped working after using it a couple of times. The price was within range for
similar products and should have been more durable.

Classic clock, durable and low battery usage (comes with a battery). Worthwhile investment if you are serious about playing and learning chess for a few years.

This thing arrived and not one, but both clocks were broken--on one the hour hand swung freely and on the other the minute hand could not be moved using the dial on the back as it's supposed to. I guess the joke is on me though, the included battery brand name is "white elephant."

My husband and I sometimes play a game called Rummy Cube (Rummy Kub), which is untimed, and as a result it can go on forever. This clock totally changes the dynamics, and has made the game highly competitive and great fun. The clock isn't fancy--simple on/off switch, set with a knob, mechanical with no battery--it gets pounded a lot but it doesn't seem to mind. A great find! Why pay twice as much?

This is a nice chess clock which works well and will continue to do so for years.

Chess clocks make great holiday gifts, not only for chess players, either! Scrabble players often appreciate them, as do players of other games where the competitive version of the game is timed. I've been multi-purposing mine, as well; I've been using it in the kitchen since my oven timer broke.

Few things have upset me more than purchasing these clocks. I have been buying online since 1996-1997 and the number have packages that have arrived broken are only two and this was one of them. More disconcerning, is the actual functioning of the clocks. Instead of it counting down like a timer, it is just a regular clock which you set. When the minute hand passes the flag, it goes up and then down, which I suppose at somepoint signals the end of the match, but you will never know when for sure. A bell or some kind of sound would have been helpful and what I would've expected. Instead the timer just keeps going. Worse still, is that there's no way to reset the clock, so when you want to start a new match you either have to wait for both second hands to start at zero or start them from where they are. Eventually reseting this many times will mean that when the second hand reaches 60, the minute hand is still off on it's own timing. Meaning the precious seconds that this clock is supposed to account for to decide a critical match don't exist and are never accurate. Lastly, the quality is absymal and I wouldn't recommend this product. However, the chess central website is an excellent resource for all chess related materials and I would strongly not fault them for this product. I would recommend buying the digital clocks and checking out the chess central website as they have many deals and great rare items.
