No, you want "Deeper Space / Extra Virgin Sky",

This review is from: Timeless Classics Live (Audio CD)
Don't even consider this one. It's an abbreviated version of the same performance found in Deeper Space/Extra Virgin Sky.
Short version of the story: It's the Papa John tribute show, taped at House of Blues in 1995. It's a killer, 5-star performance and features Grace Slick's cameo appearance. She's in fine voice, the band is hot, and "Deeper Space / Extra Virgin Sky" is the 2-CD version of the complete concert (originally released on a single disc as "Deep Space Virgin Sky"). The track list for "Extra" is below, so you can see what you're missing. 1. Sunrise (Grace Slick) 2. Have You Seen The Saucers (Paul Kantner) 3. 3/5 Mile In 10 Seconds (Marty Balin) 4. Crown Of Creation (Paul Kantner) 5. I'm On Fire (Paul Kantner) 6. Count On Me (Jesse Barrish) 7. Gold (L. Rowan) 8. Shadowlands (Paul Kantner) 9. Women Who Fly (Nona Hendryx) 10. Dark Ages (Rob Brezsney & World Entertainment War) 11. America (Marty Balin/Paul Kantner) 12. Miracles (Marty Balin) 13. Ganja Of Love (Marty Balin) 14. Plastic Fantastic Lover (Marty Balin) 15. The Light (Paul Kantner) 16. John's Other (John Creach) 17. Somebody To Love (Grace Slick) 18. Grace's Story 19. Lawman (Grace Slick) 20. Wooden Ships (Paul Kantner/D. Crosby/S. Stills) 21. White Rabbit (Grace Slick) 22. Volunteers (Marty Balin/Paul Kantner) 23. Papa John (Marty Balin) 24. Another Side Of This Life (Fred Neil)

I was there! A once in a lifetime concert event!,
This review is from: Timeless Classics Live (Audio CD)
I was able to score tickets for this concert to see my absolute favorite female singer/songwriter (Grace) one last time. Although we had to stand up for over five hours (no seats!) it was well worth it. What a show. Even the opening act was a powerhouse. Here it is 13 years later and I still remember Jack and Paul feeding off each other's energy on stage.
Don't forget Darby, the JS's then new female vocalist. she was awesome. What a set of pipes! The concert was in tribute to the late Papa John Creech, who made a real contribution to Jefferson Starship. I really enjoyed his music and own two of his albums. I miss his work. All in all. A great time was had by all. I highly recommend this CD. I have an older release, but I am not going to hesitate to add this latest one to my complete Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship collection.

First off let it be known that I love the Jefferson Airplane/Starship and I have many of their live releases, legitimate and other. That being said, this turkey needs to be avoided at all costs. The mix sounds like it was taken straight from the soundboard, lots of muddy bottom, too much of a boomy bass drum and no definition in the instruments. The tunes are taken at a much slower pace, lumbering toward their finish. The vocals are abysmal. I really don't know how Marty Balin let this one be released as his voice is shot-straining to hit the high notes in most songs. All the singers have trouble staying in tune and the harmonies are cringe inducing. New female singer Darby Gould isn't a hair on the ass of Grace Slick and for her youth still cannot keep her shrieking in tune. Grace guests on one track (Wooden Ships) and sounds pretty good at that but now I know why she said after this concert (her last), "60 year olds on a rock and roll stage are pathetic!" The only good thing about this show is the depth of the material-lots of obscure cuts mixed in with the old favorites. It's a shame they weren't up to snuff. Also this is one of drummer Prairie Prince's worst offerings. He usually is a class A1 drummer, inventive and exciting. In this recording he snoozes thru the tunes mostly keeping a straight backbeat. Pitiful. Save your money and your memories. This one really does suck.
