4.0 out of 5 stars David Fortney's work...
I haven't actually seen this DVD yet. I have several of the Elements CD/DVD comboinations which features Fortney's work on Deseert Light. Desert Light has some incredible footage done by Fortney. It features excerpts from EarthFlight, accompanied by Enya's On Your Shore, Symphony of Light which I think is now called Light Dance featuring Santana's music and Majestic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too fast-paced for relaxation, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Timeless... A National Parks Odyssey (IMAX) (DVD)
I agree with other reviewers that the images and music are gorgeous. The landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful. Yet I want other buyers to realize what I didn't: many of the scenes are filmed with time-lapse photography. In other words, the clouds and shadows move across the landscape in accelerated motion. Some viewers will like this pace and won't mind that the naturally inspiring landscape has been altered. But for me, this created a sense of hurry and hectic rushing through time instead of the simplicity and calm of a real-time cinescape. Some of the chapters are presented at normal speed. These are the ones I find most enjoyable, and I only wish the talents who created this had let the natural beauty and their skills stand alone. Many will enjoy this film as it is. I had expected a simpler version of nature.

The images on this DVD are as beautiful as advertised but other than knowing they are of National Parks going in as you watch you have no idea wich ones you are looking at. I watched this with two other people we all felt a small indication of what parks you are seeing would have made this much more enjoyable

It features excerpts from EarthFlight, accompanied by Enya's On Your Shore, Symphony of Light which I think is now called Light Dance featuring Santana's music and Majestic National Parks, with relaxing classical music. I've read other posts on similar items and many complain about the speed of the time lapsed filming and I do agree, to an extent, that it is a bit fast, but I still have found these DVDs to be nothing but relaxing and a welcomed break from some of the crap on cable TV. I was about to admit myself to the funny farm until I fund these DVDs. It's like taking a vacation in your own home. After watching these I realized how tense I had become at just watching TV, especially the News. I'm banking on this Timeless DVD to top the others he has out.

Watching this unbelievable DVD in HD on television is akin to being there in person. Such wonderful images of OUR National Parks. Brilliantly filmed. Can be watched over, and over with great joy.

This video drops you on site for some spectacular scenery.
Time lapse that is carefully recorded ads a dimension to the experience.
Soundtrack is sufficiently fitting to carry the experience in mood.
Worthy of award.

I realized that one reason I got more depressed in winter was the lack of color in environment, also less time outdoors. So this dvd is beautiful way to bring in color, beauty of nature into your home, no matter what is going on outdoors. can "visit" glorious scenery. Is one of the most beautifully done nature dvds I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Fortney Improves with time, October 20, 2008

This review is from: Timeless... A National Parks Odyssey (IMAX) (DVD)
I have other David Forney DVDs (i.e Earth Scapes), but they don't compare with the image reproduction quality of this DVD (70mm IMAX original, no doubt has a lot to do with the mastering quality). I have been a Patrick O'Hearn fan since the early 1990s, so this fusion is very good. I teach Digital Photography here in Lake Tahoe and the techniques David uses to capture his time laps images is just captivating to my eye. When I am stressed, I will reach for this DVD to help refocus my mind (sound quality also is very good). I hope David advances to Blu-Ray to keep improving image quality and that he continues to use New Age musicians to set the mood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never fails to invoke kinship with nature, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Timeless... A National Parks Odyssey (IMAX) (DVD)
It stands as a persistent source of strength to all of us who seek the companionship of nature around us. Without hesitation I can say I have found it uplifting and a marvellous source to reminisce visits to National Parks presented.

Truly relaxing nature scenes with great cinematography. Most programs trying this do not come close. Highly recommended. A great follow up to
the genre started by Natural States and True North, but done with up to date filming techniques.
