5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fusion -- truly "Timeless"
Having grown up listening to Sergio's work and being of that age group that Hip Hop first targetted, I feel that I'm representative the best demographic target for this album. Is it truly hip-hop? No. Is it truly classic Samba? No. But that's what's so wonderful about it! It's a fusion of both and it totally works. Will I Am and Sergio have managed to take the...

3.0 out of 5 stars nice effort, bad rap and hip hop
nice music from sergio mendes, however a lot of un necessary rap ruining the songs, this should have been kept to minimum, you don't need it to sell good music ,to become hip these days you need rap or hip hopin your music.

Will I Am and Sergio have managed to take the sound of both and temper them to each other -- creating a cacaphony that is delightful as well as engaging. The sound is fresh and classic at the same time -- a difficult combination to accomplish. Especially since a lot of hip hop these days taking a generic turn and the genre of sampling is using the same tired turnes for every other song (samples of samples, compounded up to 3 times in the hip hop community!) I wish there were more of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget What You Think You Know..., April 10, 2006
This review is from: Timeless (Audio CD)
If your truely objective, you'll find that this a beautiful piece of work. It's not Classic Sergio, and it's certainly not Sergio and The Roots. But the melody and the beat on "Loose Ends", compliment each other just as well as Pharoah Monche does Justin TimberLake. "Kindness is Timeless" and India Aire makes is just that easy. Like it or not, after one listen, your gonna find yourself saying, "it's that heat that heat that heat"

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Idea, April 10, 2006
This review is from: Timeless (Audio CD)
This CD should come with a warning label. I doubt that Hip-Hop fans will like it, and I know that anyone who remembers Brazil 66 will hate it. What's next for Will.I.Am, an "updated" version of all the Dixie Chicks "hits"? Maybe they could colaberate on a moderdernized version of the National Anthem for track one. I had to clean my player and take a shower after this one. I tried to give this CD away free on Amazon, but that fell below the minimum price for used CD's, so I put it where it belongs, in the garbage. Come on reviewers, "keeping it real" should mean telling the truth, not being politically correct.

This is one of my favorite new CD discoveries (more than a year after its release?!). Maybe I love this CD because my Mom used to play Brazil '66 when I was a kid. Maybe it's because Stevie Wonder was my favorite in college. Maybe it's because I'm on a Brazilian music kick these days, getting into Suba and Bebel Gilberto. Or maybe it's because I have two teenagers who like hip hop and who excitedly recognize the featured new artists, and we all can enjoy this music together. Who knows? But the fact remains that I listen to this CD again and again, and every time I really get into the music. Put this on the stereo at your party and everyone will ask what it is. Like another reviewer said, "It's that heat, that heat, that heat!" (the catchiest lyric since those old Doublemint chewing gum commercials).
