This is probably the worst film I've ever seen! Poor quality and just poor film all together. My daughter, who loves mermaids, didn't even give it 2 minutes before saying she wanted to watch something else. Please don't waste your money.

It was painful to watch. Never seen cartoon characters swim at such funny angles.
Shut off the show after 7 minutes

I wish I wouldn't have purchased this. I thought it was the most recent version but, this movie was probably made in the 70s when I was a kid. :)

This is NOT the Disney version. For those of you who rented it thinking it was - just look at the cover. This is an adaptation of the ORIGINAL Hans Christian Andersen story which inspired Disney's The Little Mermaid. Although it's not the 1975 Japanese anime classic with a blond mermaid called Marina some of us remember watching when we were little - 14 years before Disney made a ginger little mermaid - I believe this is a good adaptation. The original story is both scary and sad. I'm glad Amazon is offering this adaptation; I wish they would offer the 1975 anime version!

The mermaid's voice sounded like more like a fishmonger's wife than a princess. I was very disappointed and couldn't watch it for more than three minutes.

The animation for this is rather lackluster, but since it wasn't made for a full-length movie like Disney's classic, I suppose that can be forgiven, if not for the terrible storytelling and dialogue. I could barely make heads or tails of this and I've seen several different retellings of this story. If you're a fan of Hans Christian Andersen's story, this is one you definitely want to avoid.
