4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful listen from Omaha, November 25, 2008
I felt compelled to purchase this CD after experiencing the joy of witnessing music the way it was meant to be performed at a recent concert @ the Pizza Shoppe in Omaha, NE.

Originally I went to see another band, but stayed for Midwest Dilemma, not knowing what to expect. What I didn't expect was an avg sized man, bearded, and losing a bit of hair in the front. Then another 10 members joined him onstage. A cello, clarinet, and tuba would soon follow. They looked like your average community college students, and I didn't expect much.

Justin and his band mates focus on their craft, not on their threads. The show was brilliant, everyone having their purpose and no one trying to overpower each other. We enjoyed the show and bought a CD on the way out. This was over a month ago and I still enjoy listening to this wonderful concept album that traces back Justin's family roots from Europe-to-Canada-to-Present day Omaha.

The album starts of slow but continues to build. Some of my favorites are "The Great Depression" & "Timelines & Tragedies."

I would write more but critical reviews are not my strength. I just felt obligated to put people onto good music and this page looked empty and sad. Good luck Mr. Lamoureux, thank you for sharing your music with those that appreciate it.

This is from their website:

"Midwest Dilemma presents orchestral folk songs and waltzy ballads on their debut release, Timelines & Tragedies. Twenty-three members, consisting of strings, woodwinds, brass, orchestral drums, and nontraditional chamber instruments accompany singer-songwriter Justin Lamoureux. Timelines & Tragedies is a timeline of family history, tracing Lamoureux's ancestors to their days of French Canadian fur trading, the struggles of his parents' generation with Vietnam, and eventually concluding with his life in Omaha. Timelines & Tragedies is the perfect outcome of Midwest Dilemma's vision.
