Book Description

When a young prophetess is rescued from genocide by a retired veteran, our prolific duo teams up with a sultry bounty hunter who falls for any heroic heart. Old comrades unite amid the chaotic collapse of a world power, and rebel armies form new alliances. A princess learns of her true heritage while tribes waken powers of olden. A practitioner of occult science self-fulfills temple prophecy by resurrecting his father from the grave, only to realize the Free People he despises have become his only salvation.

Many believe these inevitable events were written in the stars from the dawn of time, and prophets are merely observant students of precession who study repetitive patterns within endless successions of natural cycles. Others say it is impossible to predict legendary incidents which happened before and are destined to occur again. Civilizations have come and gone, leaving historical warnings carved on ancient walls. Unheeded and forgotten by myth, eras are reborn to rise and fall until there comes an age when every god's immortality nears its end…

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, Time's Disease offers the classical allure of mythology with enduring messages very relevant to current events. Futuristic themes revolve around castle landscapes to create this novel recipe: a dash of mysticism, sprinkled by romance and topped by spatters of horror. Sup from hope’s cup amid epic tragedy, to partake of this bold tale. Revealed by Illiana Rhea and told by the very characters themselves, this is Laurent In Chains.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book! Very creative. April 6, 2013

I stumbled across the Kirkus Review for this book and decided to check out. It was a long but fun read and I thought it was really cool how the author did all the chapters from the view points of both good guys and bad guys. The battle scenes were killer, the dragon chapter was awesome and I liked how Lucian used actual science combined with necromancy for reanimation. I am a fan of any apocalyptic-style fiction, but I'm hooked on the fact that this book leads into a zombie theme for the rest of trilogy.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly written, illogical, pathetic waste of time October 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Is this author a native English speaker? I do hope not. A native can't be that bad at English, can he or she? And why wasn't this book edited? It might have been proofread for punctuation, but it needs a complete overhaul. I doubt any editor would want their name associated with this nonsensical garbage.

You can sample the poor writing by clicking on the image. Note the incorrect word use in virtually every sentence. Here's one: "Prolific duo." What are they, a team of A-list screenwriters with dozens of blockbusters to their credit? No, they are a young prophetess and a retired veteran. I guess whatever they do, they do it prolifically. Or something.

Note also the pathetic attempts at sounding literary that are not even purple prose, due in part to the "author's" use of the wrong words and to the clunky sentence structure. Here's a dandy example: "Add a dash of mysticism, sprinkled by romance and topped by spatters of horror, to sup from hope's cup amid life's epic tragedies." Qué? Please repeat that in English.

These two quotes are from the first page and are only two of several such first-page, wince-inducing examples of language butchery. And this "book" is nothing more than a compilation of this stuff.

For an evening of fun and laughter, invite over a group of friends, pop the cork on a bottle or six of wine, sit back, get a bit tipsy or, better still, cross-eyed, and read aloud from this atrocity. You'll have loads of fun trying to figure out the illogical tripe spouted sentence after sentence. Make it a contest!

WARNING: READING LAURENT IN CHAINS WILL RESULT IN SEVERE SPASMS OF GIGGLING AND GROANING!
