Henry VII was no Henry VIII,

This review is from: Life and Times of Henry VII Pb (Kings and Queeens of England) (Paperback)
In many ways Henry VII has been overshadowed by his son, which is a shame. Not a lot is known about his life while in exile, but what we do know about his reign makes him the more admirable of the two. He wasn't the spendthrift that his son was and seemed to really love his wife. Of course she bore sons, unlike Catherine.
The book was helpful also in informing us about the times, for different classes of people. For instance the average length of a marriage in those times was only 15 years, what with men having to be established financially before marriage [no credit cards or mortgages] and the high mortality rates from disease or childbearing.

I purchased this book as resource for I book I am writing. Since it is one of the "Lifes and Times" books by Neville Williams I knew it would be an excellent choice and I was not disappointed. The photos and biography were very helpful in representing the era and the index was invaluble. |
