5.0 out of 5 stars Foo Fighters' Best: A Happy Medium
Foo Fighters is one of those groups that you know are great, but never really paid attention to, except when they were on the radio. Early Foo was pretty good, a little pop-punkish for most, but still pretty good. Today, they look to conquer modern rock, and claim it as theirs. However, in-between their old pop-punk days, and their modern rock days, were "Times Like...

This song is great but it would have been nicer if the quality of the download by Amazon was up to par. Will never download again from this company

Foo Fighters is one of those groups that you know are great, but never really paid attention to, except when they were on the radio. Early Foo was pretty good, a little pop-punkish for most, but still pretty good. Today, they look to conquer modern rock, and claim it as theirs. However, in-between their old pop-punk days, and their modern rock days, were "Times Like These." A happy medium that would make anybody happy, but never really did.

Lyrically, the song might not break any ground, with lines like, "I'm a new day rising," but they aren't exactly annoying anybody either. In fact, the complete opposite, they're pleasant and enjoyable, fitting the mood of the song.

Musically, the hooks are excellent and catchy, and numerous. Don't say Dave Grohl doesn't know how to craft a good song. Great guitar work here.

Overall, if you're looking for a great rock song to add to your collection, or just some great Foo Fighter music, you've found it here. And for another angle to the song, try to find the studio acoustic version, that has all the great elements of the original, with added emotional depth, and an amazing vocal performance by Grohl.

Trivia: Apparrently, George W. used the song at some of his 2004 election rallies. Foo didn't care for that too much, and responded by campaigning for Kerry. That sure helped a lot.

Real Score: 4.5

The Foos' lyrics are never that complicated, but these are particularly easy to remember. They are also on the positive side, which isn't always the case with alternative bands, especially these days.

The unplugged version of this song is even better, with a more earnest and heartfelt sound. I recommend that as well.
