5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Time, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Timeslips & Terrors (Paperback)
I loved the selection in Timeslips & Terrors. I don't always have time for extended reading. The short stories were perfect for lunch breaks and the novellas were great evening and weekend reads. I enjoyed having both mystery and horror in one book.

"Remembering My Isaac" is one of the most dramatic horror stories I've read. I don't think it is just a horror story. The powerful elements kept me thinking about it long after I finished reading.

"The Statue of Ninurta," was thoroughly engrossing. It is a story involving archeology, but without the technical details that often slow stories set in the field.
I loved watching it all unravel in, "The Perfect Crime." I also enjoyed, "The Unfinished Room," "Stormy Weather," and "Mandrake."

The book shuns the typical horror I've read today and gives readers a break from gore and other elements that slow contemporary stories. The weaving of atmosphere and character emotions kept me in the story until it ended. I would highly recommend it.

I truly enjoyed the variety of stories in the book and the imagination of the writer and her ability to translate it into prose is great. I would definately recommend this book if you are a suspense fan.

2.0 out of 5 stars Timeslips: 2, Terrors: 0, November 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timeslips & Terrors (Paperback)
A few interesting ideas, but none really pan out. Only a couple of stories were timeslips. One was way too protracted and the other cliché.

A fair number of the stories seem like Lifetime TV movies in which abusive, crude husbands are endured by put-upon women. Maybe there's a vampire stripper thrown in the mix, but it really doesn't help.

A seeming complete lack of editing also undermines the author's talent, which has promise, but needs a firm hand to cut away the excess and guide the plot to a satisfying ending.
