Time to put on DVD, April 17, 2007
This review is from: Timestalkers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Come on studio, put it on DVD and make scalpers charging $50 to go broke for being so greedy. The movie is a reasonably good time travel story. William Devane, Lauren Hutton, and the rest the cast turn in good performances. The synopsis says the storyline. A man tries to stop a time traveller that is going back to the past to change history. This story has been seen in a couple others, but this is slightly different and the production values are good. I recommend it once it comes out on DVD for a reasonable price. The outrageous prices being asked here for a used VHS is ridiculous.

Stalking "TIMESTALKERS"......, April 14, 2007
This review is from: Timestalkers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is, simply put; One Of THE BEST Time Travel stories I have ever seen in a film.
All the classic elements are there; a villain out to change the future by altering the past, the opposition out to prevent this, temporal anachronisms providing clues, etc... The (dare I say it?) time-honored concept of Paradox is present and accounted for, as expected in a time travel tale...
But where this lil` made-for-tv movie differentiates itself is in the myriad little details and the style in which they are presented in a novel and entertaining manner...Without delving into Spoiler Territory, a good example is one scene where the villain manages to beat the tight security of a restricted military installation by simply time-travelling back 60 years BEFORE the place existed, walking a hundred feet, and then going forward in Time again to When and Where he wants to be with no hindrance from armed guards and electric fences. ( Yes...You could say that he 'got PAST' Security!:)
The plot is overall intelligent with twists and turns that add up to an engaging "mystery in history", with characterisations that are all good, and acting that is straight forward and believable through-out. Action, Adventure, Pathos, Humor and Intelligence are delivered in ample portions as the story unfolds. This film grabs the viewer on many levels, appealing to fans of Sci-Fi, Westerns...or just anyone who wants a good bit of intelligent Human Drama.
True, the plot does have a small hole or two, and some contrived aspects (which is the only reason I did not give it a full "5 Stars") and the time travel-related FX are low-budget tv movie level; but the other production values such as Period Reproduction are top-notch and the aforementioned overall intelligence of the story makes up for such trivialities.
It`s too bad that this little Gem appears to be forgotten, with no DVD release (a vhs came out over a decade ago, and my Search turned up ONE copy on Amazon...for FIFTY BUCK$!!...I feel SOOO lucky to have a great-looking print of this already in my collection...I just watched it, which prompted this review)...
Here`s hoping such a rare intelligent effort does not remain so terribly ignored.

A cow-boy travelling time, July 18, 2000
This review is from: Timestalkers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you like time-travel movies, and cow-boys, and professors, and antiques nuts, you will like this one. Emotion and fun are there too. I can't wait a new release of this video: HURRY.
