Burkette is also on the trail of a killer, and he thinks T.J. is the killer's wife! Although it takes the heroine more than 100 pages to figure out "when" she is and the hero is stubbornly dense, there is plenty of Western-style action once the story gets going. Cliches and redundancy detract; nevertheless, the attention to period detail provides a good sense of time and place, and the sizzling sexual tension will be a draw for many readers. Jac (Night's Immortal Touch, Zebra, 1995) has written numerous historical romances under her own name, Cheryl Biggs, and lives in Concord, California.
