Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Covering a span of time from prehistory through 1991, the data in this compendium are arranged in tabular form under the headings of General History, Jewish History, and Jewish Culture--with later headings dividing Jewish history into geographic areas. The biblical period is covered in fewer than 20 pages, and almost half the book is devoted to the 20th century. There is no articulated criteria for inclusion of material, and the choices in every category seem rather eclectic. Also, there is no clear demarcation among the categories, so that, for instance, obscure literary publications are frequently cited in the history columns. It is hard to tell what use can be made of this compilation other than as a resource for playing Jewish trivia.

5.0 out of 5 stars a tremendus collection..., April 16, 2000
The book is extremely interesting covering major events in Jewish history as early as circa 9000 BC (!) up through 1991. Of course most of it deals with the last 2000 years. What is most shocking is the documentation of antisemitism that is so widespread in just about every location on the globe and in every age.

The history spanning the last 100 years was most revealing, showing us bit by bit how the nation of Israel was re-formed, and how the current conflicts that we still see in the news today have progressed from their inception. My understanding of modern Jewish history increased dramatically by reading through what was going on in Israel and other parts of the world during the same time frames. The numerous accounts of events occurring before, during, and after WWII gave me a new-found perspective on the Jewish plight. It was quite eye-opening to find out just who, in the United States and abroad were supporters or enemies of the Jewish nation.

This is a tremendous collection of newsworthy events important to the Jewish culture arranged so that you can easily compare history in other parts of the world at the same time.

This book gives a step-by-step history of the Jewish people and their religion. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a book that contains just about everything there is to know about Judaism and it's followers.

3.0 out of 5 stars MadScientist, April 7, 2010
This review is from: Timetables of Jewish History: A Chronology of the Most Important People and Events in Jewish History (Paperback)
This book should really be titled "How the Askenazim" or European Jews hijacked the histories of other peoples especially Africa, the Bible itself established Africa's centrality to the whole Hebrew drama. Moses-an Pharaonic Egyptian (African language) name-Pharaoh's 'Ah-Moses,' 'Tuth-Moses,''Ra'Moses" and so on . Moses was born in Egypt and raised by Pharaoahs daughter. Acts clearly states that Moses was raised and taught in Egypt. Today's Jews are not Semites, they are European called Askenazim, a word with Biblical origins (the grandson of Japeth, the personification of the Indo-Europeans (Caucasoids). They converted to Judaism in 740 AD (see 'The Thirteenth Tribe'). Moreover, the whole idea of a United Monarchy has been devestated by Thomas Thompson in 'Mythic Past: Biblical Archeology and the Myth of Israel'. He clearly shows that the idea of Israel as we know it is not substantiated by extra-Biblical evidence. Thus the founders of modern Israel have no historical, ethnic, racial, cultural or religous connection to the so-called Hebrews of antiquity and Israel should be seen as just what it is, a European Settler-Colony' imposed on its original inhabitants in the manner of America, South Africa and Australia! One thing this book is good for is its historical dating. It is clear, even when readinb this book, that the vast majority of Jews resided in Central and Eastern Europe as the Askenazim are descendents of the Khazars of Central Eurasia (Russia). That is why there are and were so many Jews in Russia (Eastern Europe).
