This watch does exactly what you would expect, and for a good price. It tells time, has stopwatch, alarm, and countdown timer functions, and uses Timex's Indiglo so you can see the watch face in the dark. You have to pay more if you want lap timer function, so multisport atheletes should look beyond this product, but for casual wear or for training a single sport at a time, it works fine. The only thing I do not like about it is that you cannot make it change modes silently. Every time you push a button (except to make the watch face light up), the watch beeps.

Many functions:
- two different time screens
- alarm
- back light
- timer
- stop watch
- shows the date

It has a metal buckle for the plastic wrist band.

only con is that it can be a bit bulky, but it's such a minor "con".

Two features that are not obvious in the Amazon description:
1) 24 hour time display is an option
2) it accepts a 16mm (5/8") band

This is a pretty good basic watch at a reasonable price. The buttons are poorly designed though. They are recessed too deeply and hard to press. This is not so bad when just setting the time, since that only has to be done a few times a year. It is more of a problem when you want to press the light button to see the time in the dark and you have to press and press and press very hard to get the light to come on. If I wanted to use it as a stop watch or alarm it would be even more of a problem. As a basic inexpensive watch to see the time during the day, it is fine.

Just got my watch today, item was delievred in less than a week. The watch face is a tad smaller than I expected but I really like it regardless. Its black with some dark grey accents and goes with everything I wear. Its very light and comfertable, wish the alarm was a little bit louder, the red trim inside is also a nice detail. I would recommend this to any watch wearer its good for work/daily use and modern looking for going out with also. The indiglo is bright and has a cool fade out feature. Its a good looking watch and the price is sweet !

It is obvious that you won't be stopping traffic or getting robbed for this timepiece - but that's a good thing, right? This Waterproof watch from Timex goes for under 20 bucks. It's perfect for kicking around & it has a lot of useful functions. So far it seems pretty durable. You can even switch out the wristband if you'd like (so it's not all one fused together piece). Actually, the existing black band that it comes with is comfortable already, so it's not necessary to change it - it's just nice to have the option. In the dark, you get a green glowing backlit face (at the push of a button) which has already proven to be a convenient feature. The light stays on long enough for you to actually see the time, date, etc. There is a stopwatch function & you can program different time-zones - in a separate second screen. Without touching ANY buttons, it shows the date & time numerically, as well as the day in letters (example: Mon, Tues, Wed, etc). It has a big, readable font that's easy on the eyes. The most impressive thing is the waterproofing. I've had other inexpensive watches & they sometimes get moisture inside (condensation). Living in South Florida during the summer, our temperatures reach into the 100's with 99% humidity. Even with a rapid temperature change & being completely submerged in water (a dive into the pool or a quick, cool shower) this watch has proven to be sealed up pretty tight. So, if you're looking for something to keep good time & you like the looks of this watch, go for it! It comes in a box, so it'd make a nice "under 20 dollar" gift too.

I am a runner and swimmer who bought this watch to replace a worn out Timex Ironman. I agree with the reviewer who stated that it does not have a lap timer, but it does have an interesting feature that enables you to "pause" the watch when you finish a lap, hold that lap time indefinitely until you have a chance to look at it, and then resume timing without losing any seconds or minutes. I disagree with the reviewer who said the watch is hard to read. I too wear reading glasses (1.75 to 2.00) but I find the time, the date, and the seconds very easy to see. (Easier than my old Ironman. Much easier.) I despise the fact that it beeps every time you change the mode but, heck, you shouldn't be fussing with the mode in a quiet theatre or during church anyway. I am not enamored with the "resin" (read: plastic/rubber compound) band, but I am getting used to it. It's actually a very comfortable watch band, once you get accustomed to it. Glad Timex put a metal buckle on the product. For [...] bucks it's indestructible! And with the alarm, I'll never to late to a meeting with the Boss again.

Time display is decent, has all the standard features you'd want. You can't disable the beep on touch of any button (really obnoxious). The wrist strap is fairly rigid so it's really hard to put the watch in a pocket if you don't want to be wearing it, and it's not that comfortable to wear all the time. Replacing the strap with an after-market strap looks to be challenging if not impossible.

For years, I had Timex Marathon watches that were great. When my last one's battery died I bought this watch. Mistake. The digits and other functions are more difficult to read and the buttons are not as intuitive or logical as on the Marathon. I finally went to a jeweler and had a new battery installed in the Marathon.

I've worn a Timex IronMan for years, but the Mode button now refuses to budge. It was time to look for a new watch. I read all the reviews on the Timex T5J581 1440. Most people were pleased with the watch, although I was a little leery since a reviewer mentioned buttons that were difficult to push. I especially appreciated the reviewers that noted the 24 hour display capability. As a Navy pilot, I got used to that format, and still prefer it. The 24 hour capability is not mentioned in the Amazon watch description, and I would not have made the purchase without that knowledge. Thanks for that info.!

The watches (I bought two) arrived quickly and very well protected. The display is very large and easy to read. The watch is comfortable and the strap is very easy to secure. It is large, but not any larger than my IronMan. It was very easy to set, even without reading the directions. I was pleased to discover that my buttons were easy to press. No problem as noted by one reviewer.

I tried to think of something negative to say about this watch, but can't think of anything other than the red ring around the face would have looked better in black. If you are looking for a basic sports watch, I don't think you can do better than this for the price!
