This clock requires an electrical outlet for normal operation. The battery is intended only for brief power outages.
It is significantly more bulky than I anticipated: 4.5 inches high, 4 inches wide, 2.5 inches thick. Shell is grey ("silver") plastic. Made in China for Michigan-based Geneva Clock Co. If you are looking for a compact or travel alarm clock, this will not be your first choice.

The numbers on this clock are brightly backlit with eerie blue light but the face and hands are NOT lit at all. That makes it very hard to read the time at night.
Of minor importance, the Elgin clock received was smaller than specified, about 4 1/8 inches by 4 13/16 inches, not 5.8 x 6.2. But it looked exactly like the picture. Maybe better.

Nice looking clock, but there is no snooze button. The battery backup works very well - good if the power goes out.
The only real problem I have with it is that the blue backlight is so bright at night that I have to cover the clock with a cloth, so I can sleep. I have moved it to the livingroom.
