Basic, but does the job, January 9, 2006
This review is from: Timex Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Watch)
I got this because I wanted a cheap heart rate monitor, and that it is. It has a watch part to wear on the wrist and a band to go around your chest. They operate wirelessly and are comfortable enough to not notice once you've worn them for a while. The functionality offered is basic to say the least: On or Off. That's about it. The only other thing you can do is view the readings (Average, Min, Max and Session duration) from the last time it was running by holding down the button for a long time when it is off. While on it displays the current heart rate and the session time (time on). That's it, but what do expect for the price! Good value for money. If you want a watch, alarms or more extended features, you will need to spend more.

Excellent value in its place, March 31, 2006
This review is from: Timex Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Watch)
Given the price, this is an outstanding unit. However, it is necessary to understand that this is a BASIC, beginner's, no frills unit. Those who "wish upon a star" and pretend this is a Garmin Edge are bound to disappointement. The unit has one button and two basic functions derive from that button. the first is a simple On/Off function, while the second is for data retrival (time, average HR, Hi, Lo, clear data). This is ALL the unit is supposed to do, and it does that VERY well indeed. The "master" button is a bit stiff on mine, but only such that it can't be accidentally tripped. The time lag between pushing (i.e. holding) the master button and data retrival is a bit long for my thumb, but still nothing that detracts from the unit's function. So, if you're wanting a "beginners" Heart Rate Monitor, or you want something inexpensive to tide you over till that Garmin Edge wanders into your life, this is a good and economical way to go. My daughter will "inherit" this when MY Garmin arrives, and I will recommend it to anyone who wants a basic or starter HRM.

Works Great Without Complex Features, May 18, 2006
This review is from: Timex Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Watch)
After experiencing some corinary problems, Mr. Cardiologist approved of cycling & elevating the heart rate but not to excess. This monitor has worked flawlessly to date and lets me keep things under control. There is no alarm but I didn't think I'd hear one while biking anyway and the display is large & easily readable at a glance. It provides all the function I need although it may be too basic for some. The chest strap goes unnoticed in short order. Typical of Chinese products, the manual is minimal and sometimes quaint but adequate and the price was right. It doesn't try to be all things to all people which leaves you with an uncomplicated, easy to use, great working device.
