The Ironman Race Trainer wears great for everyday time-keeping, and when you're ready to train it is equipped with multiple heart monitor functions that allow you to measure and reach your training goals every time you work out. The heart rate monitor communicates digitally with the watch and has an owner-replaceable battery. The heart rate monitor features a 10-workout memory and five linked interval timers with target zones to allow you to measure your development as you train. Functions such as 'Average Heart Rate' that offer readings for your total workout and for each lap and 'Time in Zone' with six heart rate target zones allow you to interpret your performance and set goals. The 'Recovery Heart Rate Timer' measures your heart rate after a timed recovery period during or after your workout, giving you further information about your fitness level. Additional functions include 'Percentage-of-Max Heart Rate Display' and 'Calories Burned.' 'Digital Transmission' protects your data from cross talk with other heart rate monitors and electronic interference from exercise equipment.
In addition to heart rate monitor specific functions, the Ironman Race Trainer comes loaded with functions to maximize your training. The watch is equipped with five variable intensity interval timers and a 100-hour chronograph with lap and split in large digits, allowing you to time yourself with ease and accuracy. The watch also features a 50-lap memory for each workout with average heart rate per lap readings. In addition, the watch has a 100-hour, three-mode countdown timer and three alarms with daily, weekly, and weekly with five-minute backup alarms for security. The watch is equipped with an Indiglo night-light with Night-Mode feature so you can read the watch and use its functions anywhere. A polyurethane integrated strap is comfortable for high-exertion wear and daily use, and the watch boasts a 3.5-year battery life and is water resistant up to 100 meters.

This review is from: Timex Ironman Midsize Race Trainer Heart Rate Monitor with Data Xchanger Watch, Black/Grey, Mid Size (Sports)
I had been using a Timex for several years, and was very happy with it until it started malfunctioning. I went looking for a new one, comparing Polar, Suunto, and then later Timex. My two primary concerns were quality, a diffuse set of factors, and the ability to work with an Apple running Mac OS X. Only some of Polar's and Suunto's watches work with a Mac, and then only with external software. I was surprised when I found Timex's Ironman Trainer packages also worked with Apple.Provisos: - A sleek light watch, that fits my wrists - I have proportionately slender wrists, although I'm fairly large - but might be unusable on men with large wrists. - Data management is done on a website, requiring registration Pros: - Looks great - Easy to use, although it has many features - Reliable (assumed from my long-term experience with other Timex watches) - Inexpensive (the cost was $50 less than advertised elsewhere, and much less than comparable Polar/Suunto watches) - User-exchangeable battery (some Polar/Suunto models require shipping for battery replacement) - Works nicely with PC's and Mac with a free account with Training Peaks, an effortless installation and upload to the third-party site. Cons: - There are some desktop packages, they are a bit pricey for my needs, $130 per year, a recreational fitness buff. The basic online statistics are good, but I would love to be able to slice-and-dice my performance numbers in more detail.

The light on this watch broke after owning it for less than 2 months and I am only eligible for a partial refund!!!! This is a problem with TIMEX and AMAZON. Maybe we should just purchase directly from a local vendor rather than Amazon, where they treat customers with more repect.

In truth, except for one thing, I like this HRM. It's reasonably priced, has a number of standard features, and basically does what most would ask of it.But the button design is just idiotic. I have, on MANY occasions, inadvertently and unknowingly hit the "Start/Stop" button and LOST a workout recording because I had no idea the watch had stopped working. It is EASY to hit that button, and when you do, it's all over until you go to upload and realize that you only have a fraction of the session recorded. The button sticks up (this is the one right below the face of the watch/HRM), and all it takes is a brush to activate it. I am now in the market for a new HRM simply because of this one design flaw. This button should have been the lap button, they should have reversed the functions between it and the one to the upper right of the HRM face. THEN, if you hit it inadvertently, the worst thing that would happen is that you logged a new lap. So close, but this is a killer for me. Buyer beware.
