4.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite watch, May 22, 2007
This review is from: Timex Ironman T54261 Triathlon 30-Lap Traditional Midsize Watch (Watch)
The Timex Ironman watches are my favorite. They tend to last 2-3 years, but for the price, I feel this is reasonable. My only complaint on this particular watch, is the plastic band. I've had this one a little over a year, and the band snapped a few days ago. My previous one lasted about 4 years, a similar, but older model of the Ironman, however, it had the cloth/velcro band. I will probably be buying another one, but one with a different type of band. Because these are pretty reasonably priced watches, I'd rather just buy another watch with a different band, instead of spending another $10-15 a year on bands until the rest of the watch wears out.

4 stars - Great watch, perfect size, band wore out much sooner than expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT REASONABLY SIZED WATCH, March 15, 2007
By
This review is from: Timex Ironman T54261 Triathlon 30-Lap Traditional Midsize Watch (Watch)
I have owned several Ironman over the last 30 years or so and I have been pleased. However, my last Timex watch had a twist of the dial control function and was a great disappointment as the dial became difficult to twist and finally the watch stopped working after only six months. I was very disappointed in Timex and almost didn't buy this one. This watch is the traditional men's Ironman, but smaller than I had purchased before and it fits nicely on my large wrist with plenty of band length. I have owned the new watch for three months with fairly rugged use and it functions great with easy to operate controls and it is very readable. My wife and adult children tell me that it looks like a women's watch but I think they are used to oversized wathes that have been in style and I assure them that I am on the cutting edge of a new trend towards smaller (and more reasonally sized) wrist watches for men. I am happy to say, that once again, I am very pleased with Timex.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice watch - but don't bother with replacement watch band!!, August 3, 2009
This review is from: Timex Ironman T54261 Triathlon 30-Lap Traditional Midsize Watch (Watch)
This is a very nice watch for the price. I like it because it is nice-looking (women's version comes in some nice colors as well) and it has the functions I want: alarm, 2 clock settings, lap timers that count up or down(I can set it to "count down repeat" for certain track workouts or fartlek runs for example), and is completely waterproof. Just beware that the replacement straps are a MAJOR pain in the butt!! It is frustrating because the rubber strap (I prefer the rubber straps with little buckle, not the fabric w/ velcro ones) doesn't last as long as the watch, and you might think (like I did), why purchase a whole new watch when there is just this little part of the band that is torn or broken? I'll tell you why - the replacement watch bands are extremely difficult to install - even if you have the little watchband tool. I have actually successfully replaced the band on several of these watches (and my husbands larger version) a couple of times, but each time it took 1-2 hours (on and off, in between times of throwing the watch across the room in frustration and waiting until I regained my composure enough to try again), and some shaving off of part of the band with a sharp swiss army knife to make it fit. With the latest watch (which I really like the color of and don't know if I can find another one like it!) I'm on two hours and have shaved off major bits of the band- and it still won't go in!! I know it's the right size band because I've already successfully replaced the other half of it (I waited to replace the second side until it tore, since the first side was so difficult to install). Why why why do they make the bands like this? It is ridiculous. Final analysis: the watch costs $35-40, and the replacement band costs $12-15 plus 1-2 hours (maybe more) of frustration, so if your band breaks, just buy another watch.
