5.0 out of 5 stars A HRM that does what you need, without unecessary frills
This Heart Rate Monitor works very well, and does everything 99% of us need. I like the design, the user interface, and the overall operation. For what you get, the price is superb. You can spend hundreds $s more, but you'll get only marginally more performance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked well... when it worked
I bought this monitor in January when I started spinning classes in addition to step aerobics. Worked well and had all the features that I wanted. But then it suddenly stopped working in May. Under warranty I contacted Timex. It took 5 weeks to finally get a new working watch and chest strap. Then the chest strap broke in September in a way that is unfixable. I give...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, convenient, functional, March 6, 2006

Just some additional comments not mentioned by other reviewers. The strap constitutes one whole unit with the device. This creates a cool look and adds robustness. On the downside, no more changing the strap, but this need is highly unlikely. Also the small additional strap (around the main one - it has some special name, but I don't know it) is conveniently fixed at the free end of the main strap and thus never moves during a workout.

However, be aware that the watch is rather small (though not thin). It looks larger on the image. This is quite fine for ladies or for somewhat skinny guys like me, but might look too small for a "real man".

From the functional side it is worth to mention the presence of both '+' and '-' buttons in any setup or review mode. Indispensable when you need to reduce, let's say, the alarm time by 5 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great HR monitor!, February 7, 2006
This is a great HR monitor -- the midsized watch unit is smaller than many competitor's models, making it much more comfortable to wear. The software is intuitive. In addition to the standard features you would expect (average HR, minimum HR, time in zone, calorie count for workout), the unit ALSO records peak HR, average heart rate for splits/laps along with split/lap time, and calculates calorie use for all effort levels (vs. some Polar HR monitors which only calculate calorie use at higher activity levels). All at a very affordable price.

I'm looking for a Polar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good heart rate monitor and stopwatch, October 12, 2007
This review is from: Timex Ironman T59751 Midsize 30-Lap Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Watch)
I have had several heart rate monitors all from Polar. They all worked well but I thought I would try a less expensive brand. This was less than half the price of the Polars. I wasn't looking for every possible feature. I have had top of the line models and I never used all of the features. This one has just enough for me.

This worked right out of the box. The heart rate worked and measured correctly. Set up was very simple. Timex does a good job with the instruction manual. The Polar manuals I find to be overly complicated. Maybe that's why I didn't use all of the features.

This a midsize, which being a guy, I have preferred over the big "man's" models.

My only complaint is that the chest strap is tight. I have it lengthened as much as possible and it is just enough to fit. Very large people would have a problem with this.

I have had this watch for a few months and it works great.

i love this hrm for its size and functions. It has several display choices, which is really nice. you can see hr and time simultaneously which many other smaller hrms do not have. it is easy to use and works consistently.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, mediocre heart sensor.., October 26, 2007

This review is from: Timex Ironman T59751 Midsize 30-Lap Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Watch)
I love the watch and sensor, when it worked. I had to replace the battery after only one use. Put in a fresh battery and got to use it for one work out. Then it just stopped transmitting. Major disappointment because I loved the set up. This is the first time a Timex product failed me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good functionality, small size make this a great value, March 8, 2007
I've been using this HRM for over 2 years now. After losing the watch, and having an opportunity to try other brands/models, I decided to just get another Timex. Why? Of all the products I looked at, this one had the best set of features that were important to me for the price, and the small form factor allows me to wear it as a regular wristwatch without looking goofy.

Features I particularly like:

-5 standard + 1 custom heart rate zone w/ optional alarms

-30-lap memory w/ avg HR on each

-Calorie estimator (seems to be pretty accurate for running at least)

The only major downside is that the chest band needs a layer of moisture between it and the skin to register properly. Sometimes this takes up to 15 minutes in dry weather when I'm running, and sometimes it never works when I'm biking, especially on a cool, breezy day. If you attempt to get a reading before the band is ready, it will display '240' and this of course will render the max HR and calorie functions useless for that workout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timex Heart Rate Monitor T5C411, January 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Frankly speaking I bought this watch because it is the most good looking heart rate monitor on the market. I have read some bad reviews about Timex heart rate monitors but wanted to give them a chance based on the good experience that I had with the brand. It was surprising to see how easy it is to use the heart rate monitor. This watch has a wide display and you can set up the display mode in three different ways. All in all a great product, I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars inconsistent, March 21, 2006
My wife and I both purchased one of these watches, and neither one kept accurate heart rate information. My didn't work at all, and my wife's is inconsistently working/not working. I like the features but wish the heart rate monitor was more reliable.
