5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent watch!
Having used numerous HRM watches in the past, this is the best I've used thus far. It has everything you need, from automatic zone calculation to custom zones, to intervals, to lap timers, and it's GPS 3D compatible and shows your speed, distance, altitude, and even predicts your finish time.

I've had no problems with it at all. The signal is clear. As...

1.0 out of 5 stars Heart Sensor Doesn't Get Picked Up
What a disappointment. I had the previous model of this Timex and it worked great, until I broke it on accident. I thought this would be better because it's a newer model. I disregarded the previous reviews and thought they must have gotten the bad batches. I tried it once I got it, and I couldn't get a heart beat for the whole entire time I worked out. 45-minutes of...

As long as you keep the watch within 3 feet of the chest monitor, you won't have any problems.

I think the best feature of the Timex HRM watches though is that both the watch and chest monitor batteries are user-replaceable. It doesn't get any better than that.

If you're serious about getting into shape and like to track your progress over many activities in the day, I'd also recommend getting the Timex Bodylink Data Recorder II. Once you activate the watch and the chest monitor, the Recorder will also start recording signals from the chest monitor (and GPS too if you have). For martial arts practice, I'll activate the chest monitor via my watch, then take my watch off (can't use it during practice) and then activate the Recorder so that I can get accurate readings after my training.

Perhaps the only thing lacking might be a calorie counter, but I've found most calorie counters on HRM watches to be inaccurate.

Highly recommended watch!

45-minutes of cardio is long enough to get some kind of reading. I lost my trust on Timex that day. Good thing I tested it right away, I was able to return it to Amazon, with no problems.

Ok, I have been looking at these for a while and I have to say for the money this thing is probably one of the best options.

In terms of functionality you'll get more bells & whistles then you will probably need. Most important to me is the Chronograph and it's lap fucntions & the different zone settings you can create in HRM mode.

I'm sure that other watches allow you to download your data, but I like to use a simple excel program & create my own runner's log so I didn't need the download option.

Pros: Easy to use, good functions, chest monitor is comfortable.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is that the start/stop button on timer is located at bottom right & sometimes I hit it by accident & it scews up my times.

Also, I can't say about the battery life yet, but I know that you can get replacements easy as they are typical 3V Lithium at least for the monitor.

I've owned this watch for a couple months now & I would recommend it to anyone, not just runners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase!!!, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
I bought this watch two months ago, and have been training with it since then. I have to tell you that at the price advertised, this watch is a real bargain.

I had doubts when deciding my purchase due to a couple of negative reviews, but after using the watch I am really happy with my purchase.
The watch looks nice, so you won't have any problem wearing it all day and if this is your first HRM, it will change your training forever.

I have to tell you that the watch is a very sophisticated training tool, so I urge to read the manual. This is important even for small details, for example, at the beginning I was worried because the watch was not reading my heart rate instantly, after reading the manual I became aware that you need to moisten the sensor before using it, and problem solved. The watch has been working perfectly.

This watch offers a lot of very useful functions that other more expensive watches do not. It is an excellent sports watch and an excellent heart rate monitor as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Satisfied Owner of Timex Ironman T5F001, October 12, 2009

This review is from: Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
Did lot of research before buying this watch. I had options of other Timex HRM with better views but I went for this one with only 12 views and overall 3 star rating. Why? Because I had a feeling that this item was under rated and yes, I was right! I have been using this HRM for about 5 days now. No issue at all. Picks up signal in an instant with stock batteries. However I do apply water on back of sensor before using it. I checked the reading against my treadmill sensor and it was exactly the same. It has all the functions and feature that one need in HRM. My intent was to burn some fats and this HRM told me that I jog most of the time in Zone 1 instead of Zone 3 (fat burning zone). I have been jogging for about 8 months now and this watch instantly told me that I am not doing it right! Now I am changing my workout plan accordingly. For those who do workout, I highly recommend a HRM and if you are out for one, get this Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch. You won't regret. AG

4.0 out of 5 stars A good reliable watch with all the functions you need, January 9, 2007
I would have prefered a Polar HRM monitor watch with a more simple storage, access and download of recorded data, but as price was an issue I went for the Timex. It works well and appears to have a good and reliable connection between the watch and the other components. I mostly only use the HR sensor strap which also is comfortable to wear both when jogging and when playing soccer. The GPS and data recorder widgets are fun but all I really need is the HRM function.

Great tool to monitor your heart rate for effective cardiovascular work. Fairly user friendly set-up and instruction. I recommend it for anyone who walks, or does other cardio to keep themselves 'honest' in their workouts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I needed and more, March 20, 2009
This review is from: Timex Ironman T5F001 Unisex 100-Lap Target Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Sports)
Excellent product. My first HRM and I am more than satisfied. It has really helped my training as I was kind of a naysayer to these before I got one. Between checking my pulse manually and when on cardio equipment, I have found it to be spot on 90% of the time with a variance of +/- 1-3 BPM the rest of the time. Highly recommended especially for fist time users. Can also be used with GPS, purchased separately, if desired.

Great Watch. I use it every day. Nice enough to wear every day to work and great for the gym. Chest strap is comfortable and I have had no problems with it. Watch is easy to use, and easy to view. Monitor seems accurate when compared to HRM's on equipment at the gym they show the same rate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawless design.... but flawed HR monitor, June 25, 2007
By
I tried this product after having great success with Timex products in the past. After getting the watch and quickly learning the functions I was very excited. The HR monitor function worked great for a couple of weeks, however, after a short time it took the watch increasing amounts of time to find and display my Heart rate. After one recent work out, the watch did not find the signal from the monitor until my work out was over - it beeped to tell me I was below my target heart rate. I mean at least that function worked...right? OK, long story short - I had to replace the batteries in the monitor itself twice within a period of 2 weeks. I think I might have just gotten a dud, but I am not willing to try the product again. In my frustration I returned the item. Not recommended
