Nice watch good price,

I actually bought the model 50031 with the black resin band and not as much silver around the lens but they are otherwise the same. This is a nice watch. It is noticably lighter and not as bulky as similiar watches. The numbers are large and clear. I wish the numbers themselves were thicker and blacker to be even more readable. This watch uses a CR1620 watch battery. The battery it uses is engraved on the reverse of the watch but not found elsewhere in the manual. The battery has an average life of 1.5 years. That concerned me at first but I found a place to buy them online in bulk at a good price. I bought 5 spare batteries for $3.50, enough to last me awhile. It was nice to open the package and find the watch was keeping accurate local time for me. No setting required. I did an manual sync of the time with the Atomic Clock in Colorado and had no problem. I am happy with this watch and glad I bought it. Would recomemend it.

I was looking for an inexpensive watch that sets itself via US Atomic Clock signal and found it in this watch. I love the indiglo light feature. The face does get scratched up a bit if you bang it against stuff. I like the cloth band with velcro. Being cloth, the band does absorb sweat so it will need to be washed with mild soap periodically. Not a bad watch at all.

Great Watch,
This review is from: Timex Radio Controlled Mens Watch Watch T50041 (Watch)
One of the things that I like best about this watch is the fact that it is not this massive bulk of plastic on my wrist. It is still kind of plastic looking, but it is thinner than any other atomic watches that I was looking at. The wrist band is just a strip of velcro but I actually like it better than my old leather band because I work on a computer and my old band did not flex very well. The one thing that did concern me was that one time I accidently changed the time while working on my car (the buttons got pushed in by accident). For the next several days it would never re-sync no matter what I would do. I manually reset it to within 30 seconds of my wall atomic clock so it was not a big deal... the watch still keeps good time, but the principle of having a atomic watch bothered me. It had always re-synced every night even though I lived in a basement apartment! During the week that it didn't re-sync, I tried everything from putting in on top of my wall atomic clock to leaving it on a window sill facing west towards CO. I finally gave up and was about to call Timex when one night, in the basement, sitting on my dresser, the watch re-synced and has been ever since. I am not sure why it didn't re-sync for a week or why it suddenly started; but the point is that it doesn't need to re-sync every single night. Just be patient.

I am and have always been a CASIO watch guy - especially when it came to automatic atomic watches... it seemed Casio was the only one making a decent-looking atomic watch that didn't cost a fortune. Well, when I saw this timex watch for $24 I had to give it a try - WOW - is it nice! Nice large, easy-to-read numbers... and it seems to always get the atomic signal, too - my Casio sometimes would not receive the signal every nite... love this timex!

I love my watch. It's lost touch with the signal from Fort Collins (the atomic clock) about three times, but I was easily able to force it to contact it (once I had to go outside). Mostly, it's just an absolutely reliable time piece for as low a price as you'll find anywhere. I also like that it is not as bulky as the other radio watches I looked at. I only wish it had a countdown timer, but I haven't seen any radio watches with this feature, so I can live with that.
Bottom line: a really great watch for a great price!

I got my Timex 1440 at Christmas 2005, and I have worn it every day since. The teeny little Antenna icon tells me I am getting the time signal from Colorado. It even changed over to Daylight Savings Time automatically for me. As a previous owner of several Timex "Ironman" watches, the controls were reasonably familiar to me. The only drawback I can find so far is the tendency of the nylon velcro watchband to accumulate funky odors from sweat, etc. I remedy this with a periodic dip in a dish soap solution, followed by a good rinse and dry job. I'm tempted to throw it in the washing machine with my clothes, but I have resisted the urge thus far. All in all, I find this watch to be highly accurate, easy to use, not bulky or huge, moderately stylish, rugged enough to withstand what I have thrown at it so far, and definitely worth the $27 I shelled out for it.

Good Value,

I give this watch 5 stars for value. Obviously there are nicer watches than this, but for the money, this watch is very hard to beat. I have thin wrists, this watch is not big like so many of the atomic watches I have seen. Good for wearing around the house, playing golf, etc. Wear your Seiko to the show on Saturday night.

I am taken with radio-controlled accuracy. I own a Casio G-shock watch with a "bizillion" features, but it is a bit bulky and heavy. (I'm a 5'2" female.) I saw this Timex and, because of its reasonable price, decided to get it to wear to work--might look a little less like I'm gearing up for a day of mountain climbing! (I love my Casio, BTW; don't misunderstand!)
What I like: This watch keeps perfect time. It's sleek (for a watch of this type). The Indiglo feature works great (like at the movies!) And I found the watch fairly easy to program (e.g. set the alarm) by closely following the instructions. The display is large, so I can see it quite easily. The price was completely fair, I thought. What I wish were different: I wish it "chimed" at the hour. It doesn't. I wish it had a different kind of band, but this one works fine. (I'm not sure if it can be removed and replaced once it begins to look worn. Can't really tell by looking.) And it is quite comfortable, to be fair! Those are my only complaints. Not bad, huh! : ) There you have it! Thanks for listening! KC in Tulsa, OK

My needs are limited when using a watch, so I don't have much to say about features. However, from the standpoint of being comfortable, keeping perfect time, and being easy to read, this couldn't be better. At first I wasn't too sure about a velcro band, but now I love it. It is so easy to adjust to the correct tightness on my wrist. The digits are easy to read. It's just what I needed.

Nice watch, not quite perfect but plenty good.,
This review is from: Timex Radio Controlled Mens Watch Watch T50041 (Watch)
I always wore very full featured watches prior to this one (which I bought about a year ago). When radio sync came on the scene, I knew I had to have that though - I've always been beyond obsessive about my watch keeping perfect time. I'd already started carrying a PDA (and later added a more full featured cellphone) so my previous LTL Timex (don't recall the model right off) was now a bit obsolete, I was no longer using the majority of the more complex features.
I was a little disappointed that I couldn't set the primary display to 24h (as I was previously used to) despite UTC being in 24h permanently. This is probably my main gripe, I've gotten used to it but it would sure be nice to have the main one in 24h. A countdown timer would also be nice, but not enought to be a dealbreaker. The 24h thing would have been, but the little sign next to it when I bought it said it would do that and by the time I had bought it I'd managed to screw up my options on returning it, so I got used to it. Possibly this pulls down my love for it a bit - I might have settled but it would have been nice to settle myself instead of sorta strongarmed into it. A few more alarms would also have been nice, but again not that big of a deal since I've mostly devoted higher functions to the PDA (and some extent cellphone). A second timer and/or more then one countdown timer (had it had more then zero) might also be handy for those "quick timings" started over hours with another imprompteu short timing needed during. I like that the main display includes day of the week and date - many a watch have avoided being bought by me by making date/day of the week a button push instead of a glance. It might also have been nice to have some more padding around the glass (especially as it's billed as "sports"), at the very least making the glass not the highest point, i.e. a slam/scrape against a flat surface wouldn't scratch it. It's still held up well over a year though. I wear it pretty much 24/7 (as I do all watches) and though there are some chips/scrapes on the plastic and the lens is a little scratched it's still in good shape for what it's been through (my gold standard is that if I'm willing to subject my wrist/hand to it, a watch should be able to handle it as well, and I'm not that careful with my hand). It might be heading towards replacement in a while, but it's served me well - at the price I don't think I've seen another that did better per dollar. |
