5.0 out of 5 stars Best watch ever - simple, elegant; lasts forever
I love this watch. It's so simple (tells the time - what more do you need?), elegant (you can wear it with anything), and I've been wearing it for three years now and it's not only still running, but it doesn't show any wear and tear. It's cheap, too - who needs a ten thousand dollar watch (except to brag) when all you need is a simple instrument to tell the time. It's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good watch, except...
Watch is good, to spec and as billed. Probably will "take a licking..." and last me at least the ten years of the first battery, as advertised, tho the ribbon strap may wear out well before that. Only problem is a lesson in Internet buying: it's LOUD, as in TICK TICK TICK....

It's got 24-hour time, glow-in-the-dark minute and hour hands, it's cheap, sturdy, and it's just about the best darn watch I've ever owned!

The only legitimate issue I have with this watch is that it's a little small (even on a relatively small male wrist). The size is difficult to judge from pictures of the watch alone. If you have a large wrist, I'd recommend a larger watch than this one. However, everything else about it is either satisfactory or at least what I expected from the description and images. The face is somewhat complex and I probably would be happier without the 24-hr numerals, but I knew that's what I was getting so not the watch's fault. I believe there are versions of this watch without the 24-hr scale, so if you have no particular need for this feature you might be happier with one of them and a less complex dial. No problem at all with the volume of the tick - you've got to be in a dead quiet area to even hear it - and then only when it's within about a foot of your ear. The glow-in-the-dark feature is a little subtle, but it is there if you get your eye close enough. The watch is extremely lightweight which I like, and stands up to being worn in the shower with no problem. Also, the nylon band does not irritate my wrist (even when wet) the way plastic bands frequently do, and, of course, is way lighter than a metal band. Finally, the watch seems to be keeping perfect time, which is ultimately what it's all about.

I would like to give an update on this watch which was purchased almost 3 years ago through Amazon. I'm a remodeling contractor and, frankly, I expected this watch to last about 2 months with the rigors I have put it through. Well it's going strong after only 1 battery change, about 5 strap changes, and polishing the scratches on the plastic crystal with toothpaste numerous times. I have hammered with sledge hammers, gotten it covered with mud, and rarely take it off for weeks at a time. It gets wet in the shower every day and, yes, if I hold my hand under or in water for more than a minute or two, the crystal will fog up. But it always drys and was never meant to be submerged in water. Water resistant does not mean waterproof. (Contrary to a previous poster who claims it is supposed to be "water resistant" to 30 meters. I don't think so.) This is one tough little watch that keeps excellent time, and I would also have to take issue with the poster who claimed it was a childs' watch. Only if his children bust up concrete, tear down walls, and pump out flooded basements.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keep it DRY! Light Duty Watch., October 21, 2010

Keeps EXCELLENT Time. Very comfortable light weight, light duty watch. Its low profile and round edges do not chew up or fray my shirt cuffs. The ticking is mildly audible, but not at all annoying. I wore it jogging (in the desert) and was shocked to see that the face fogged up. (Posted the photo for you to judge for yourself.) The only moisture that had come near it was the perspiration on my wrist under the watch band. Post script: Happy Ending! Took the back off (4 screws) and gently warmed the innards with a hair dryer. All better and no repeat fogging. Have worn it daily for a couple of months. No complaints. A $20 watch that keeps good time, and allows for some basic intervention. Revising to a better grade than I gave it the first time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Check watch when you receive it., July 22, 2010

I bought this watch for my grandson who is into outdoor activity and boxing. It was one of his birthday gifts. I ordered it early and kept it in a drawer for several weeks. I admit I did not check the watch closely when I received it and tossed the receipt. When I presented it to him, he later discovered the crystal had a flaw that seperated it from the ring on the body. This prevents the watch from being used in water---which makes it worthless for his use. I frankly thought Timex did a better job on quality control...but as I stated, I did not inspect the watch when received. My advise to anyone purchasing this watch is to closely inspect it upon receipt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, February 28, 2007
This review is from: Timex Men's T18581 Camper Watch (Black) (Watch)
I love this watch. Yes, it does have a loud "tick" but nothing that would keep me up at night. It has an awesome display, seems pretty rugged, and was only $20!! The watch band is comfortable and the whole watch in general just has a very nice styling!

3.0 out of 5 stars Still not sure, May 1, 2009

I purchased this watch for a vacation I'm taking to Costa Rica. I wanted something that had a little style, was CHEAP (in case I lose it), and could take a beating. Ideally I wanted a Victorinox but they're not cheap-especially if a three toed sloth ends up eating it off my arm (kidding). I picked this one because J Crew is selling almost the EXACT same watch for $150! Their face is a little larger and metal, but this watch has the same rugged classic look but for $125 less and is still made by Timex. The band is really cheap and where the holes were punched out on the band, scratchy little threads protrude and irritate my wrist. It feels a little plasticy...like I won it from a vending machine. Also the ticking! I'm not kidding, my girlfriend makes me keep it in the other room because it's so loud. If it lasts through my trip, I'd give it another half star. 3 stars are for look and price.

3.0 out of 5 stars fairly satisfied, July 16, 2011

the watch is much smaller than the picture would make you think it is, frankly it's much more suited for a child or a woman's wrist than it is for me...I'm 6FT and 172 pounds...the strap is difficult to get fastened but once it's fastened it holds firm.
Other than the size it's a neat watch for outdoor activities where you wouldn't want to wear your Rolex or Breitling.
