Looks can be deceiving,

This review is from: Timex Men's T2M453 T Series Perpetual Calendar Black Strap Watch (Watch)
Saw this item in Details magazine and thought it was just what I wanted: a classic watch that I could wear dressy or casual, but inexpensive enough to not worry about scratching or losing.
What I couldn't see from the photo, however, was how THICK the case is. I didn't notice it right there in the product description (12 mm), but when I put it on my wrist, the fact that it's almost 1/2" thick is readily apparent. On the wrist, it wasn't the sleek style I was looking for. Needless to say, I returned the item right away.

A Timex masterpiece,

Possibly the greatest watch ever made -- large easy to read numerals -- sweep second hand -- all stainless steel case -- rugged, no-nonsense design -- day and date (with indiglo illumination) -- perpetual calendar that never needs adjusting (it even knew enough to advance three digits at midnight on Feb 29, 2008!) -- and mine is accurate to within five seconds a month!!! -- just set it for daylight savings time and forget it until the fall -- seven year battery life that Timex promises to replace for free when it dies -- I love the black face but I bought a second white-faced one just to have on hand if this one ever gets lost or broken -- I hate to think they might ever stop making this model -- it's a watch anyone would love. I only wish Timex would sell original replacement leather watch bands for this item.

This is a great watch for the money. It's nice looking, solid and the perpetual calendar feature is just cool. Add to that the fact that it is a Timex, and what you have is a very good value. I also think Indiglo is still the best watch light solution 15 years after it was introduced. The only comment I have is that it is slightly larger than I expected, but I guess that is the trend these days, and it is not ridiculously massive.

I bought this watch several weeks ago and have been very pleased with it, for the most part. As one of the other reviewers pointed out, the case is pretty thick but not unmanageable. Also, the second hand ticks and does not sweep as one of the earlier reviews states. All in all, I think this watch is a good value, especially considering Timex claims it will replace the 8-year battery for free.

I loved the looks and design of this watch.
Unfortunately it's going back for repair, for the FOURTH time in a little over a year. I'm glad I bought the 2-year extended warranty! Every time, the date slips back by 2 days. It's not something the owner can adjust. After the third repair, the date slipped back again even before I had worn it again! (It drops back, for example, from the 26th to the 24th), while the day (i.e. Tuesday) stays correct, Apparently Timex's Hotline Watch Service knows how to tweak the date, but doesn't actually know how to make it work correctly. I'm really sorry I paid 80 bucks for this thing! It's the most expensive watch I've ever owned. It's such a frustration and disappointment!

A simple classic that's always got the right day/date,
This review is from: Timex Men's T2M453 T Series Perpetual Calendar Black Strap Watch (Watch)
I've got the white dial version (T2M455) and did a review on it. I've included the review here as well.
For most all kids, time moves *very* slowly..."are we there yet?" It was no different for me. Back in elementary school, I was a habitual clock watcher. Mounted front and center of the classroom, above the blackboard, was a sizable black-on-white clock. This thing mocked me everyday and tested my patience until recess. And then after that, it would torture me until 3pm, at which point the bell rang and it signaled my race home to watch cartoons. During a recent visit to the Timex museum, I spotted this watch on the clearance table. As I took a closer look, I was stunned that it looked almost identical to the classroom clocks we had. I had to have it. The primary appeal was the clean dial reminiscent of some vintage watches and of course, how it brought back fond memories of elementary school. Don't you miss that life? When the only thing truly important in life was recess. Personally, I think it possesses a slight classic/vintage look to it. The unexpected bonuses were the perpetual calendar feature, three second Indiglo and 7 year battery with free replacement offer from Timex. The day & date perpetual calendar (until year 2100) will always be correct, so long as the CR2016 battery is good. So, for months shorter than 31 days, the watch will automatically advance the days and date to the correct new start of the next month. When the battery finally does give out, you'll need to replace it and re-calibrate the perpetual calendar. This is a fairly easy and straightforward process. You'll need to contact Timex service/repair - check the Timex web site for more info. The other nice surprise was the Indiglo "sustained on" feature enhancement. On most common Indiglo models, the glow is on only for as long as you press and hold the crown. In this application, the Indiglo only requires a quick push-n-release and then, it stays on for about 3 to 4 seconds - very handy. The Indiglo itself is as bright as a fully charged good lume, but not to the point of being distracting or blinding. It's a nice even glow covering the entire dial. There are also some nice little design cues: the seconds hand counterweight is a circled T, the day/date display window is also in the shape of a T and the case back is engraved with "1854", the year Waterbury Clock Company was founded. It's a nice historical touch. The 20mm wide black leather band has curved ends, so it hugs the case with no visible gaps between the watch body and band. Other little details: - 40mm case diameter - Approx. 48mm lug-to-lug - 11mm case height - 20mm lug width - WR100 (water resistant to 100m) The watch fits respectably well within my 57mm top wrist width. It does wear slightly larger than the specs would indicate. This is attributable to the thin bezel, which makes the dial face much larger in perspective. Back in third grade, the one hour until recess felt like an eternity. In today's terms, a year passes in an instant. Will this watch make time move any slower for me? Nope, but it does take me back in time and I like that. Here's the video review link: [...] If the link is disabled, search "Timex T2M455" on youtube and you'll see it.

Please don't get my title wrong...this would be a great watch for ANYONE but I bought if for my nearly 90-year-old father who has moderate dementia and looks at his watch frequently to keep him "grounded". There are several things going for this watch: it has a perpetual calendar (factory set). This is important for older folks who can't navigate the change from 30-day to 31-day months. It also shows EACH day number. Many watches only identify every other number and insert a dash for the others (such as 1-3-5-, etc.). The face is large and simple. This is GREAT watch. My research didn't turn up ANYTHING like it (for the price). (If you're willing to go high-end, of course you'll find one.) If you have an elderly parent who relies on their watch, BUY THIS!
P.S. Only one down-side. My father also has Parkinson's so putting on a strap band was out of the question. I exchanged the strap for a metal expandable band. Perfect!

I was pleased to receive this watch. It is quite handsome and easy to read. I have large wrists but I really think the bands should be bigger than 7 inches (leather length). I understand the typical European bands come in about 7 and 3/4 in. That would have been better. I'm in the last hole but at least that is designed to be properly held down by the loops.
I love the idea of having a perpetual calendar with the day and date. I hope it lasts longer than the single year that one reviewer said it lasted him. I did not find that it was 1/2 inches high (13 mm). In fact I measured it and found it only between 10 and 11 mm high. The date was set correctly and the crown pulled out easily to that middle setting but I had real difficulty in setting the time. DESIGN DEFECT. To set the time you have to pull the crown all the way out. I'm a big guy and it took both my thumbnails to get the crown to come out to the time changing position (it's not a screw type). That was too much force to require me to use. I was worried I would break it, but it worked once the crown pulled out to the outer position. Since this is a factory set perpetual calendar watch the time change setting should be the easier place to get to on the crown. Making the date change position in the middle will make it too easy to change the date inadvertently. So far (two whole days now) the watch is still working well and keeping time. I enjoy wearing it. I hope it works at least the seven years the battery is supposed to last. If so I will be very pleased and likely to buy another Timex, if not, I'll probably go to one of the Swiss watchmaking companies and update my review with further comments.

I was a little reluctant in purchasing this watch. Reviews didn't seem too conclusive, but gave it a shot anyway. This watch is very nice looking, comfortable and date was factory set correctly as advertised. Only advice I would give is if you're a small man or very thin this may not be for you, as has been mentioned it is a very large and thick watch.

I love this watch. I do hope it works longer than the last Timex perpetual calendar watch I had. The date window stopped working about a year after I bought the first one. So that didn't make the lovely battery guarantee mean much. I was sure it would cost as much or more than it cost to have it repaired. I loved it, too but needed the date window so I gave it to the street person who sells papers in front of my New Seasons in Portland, OR. It still works except for the date window and he is thrilled. My new one isn't as attractive as the old one. It's as basic as it gets. If the first watch hadn't broken so soon and this one was a little prettier and I would have given it 5 stars. But it does have the time, day and date and remembers how many days are in each month so I never have to mess with it. I did change the day when I was trying to set the watch and thought I was doomed but it just started going around until it got back to the right day. Tricky, eh? I do love it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't bite the dust as fast as the old one did. A hundred dollars is too much to pay for a watch each year. I would expect it to last at least 6-7 years.
