Product Description

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

Stainless steel case with a black leather bracelet. Unidirectional rotating black enamel with rose gol bezel. Black with skeletal display dial with luminous rose gold hands and stick hour markers. Arabic numeral at the 12 o'clock position. minute markers around the outer rim. Two sub-dials displaying: date and 40 hour power reserve. Automatic movement. Screw down crown. Skeletal case back. Tang clasp. Water resistant at 100 meters / 330 feet. Timex Mens SL Automatic Black Leather Bracelet Watch T2M931.

I am a watch collector and had to have one of these at the very reasonable price of US $145. I was tickled pink when it arrived. It is a beautiful watch and keeps amazingly precise time; it has 38 jewels, is automatic but can be wound, and my only complaint does not concern the watch but my eyes, being sixty I find it hard to read the day counter, but the whole face is quite legible, and for this reasonable amount for someone wanting a beautifully finished quality automatic watch I recommend it.

I welcome Timex back to the mechanical watch world! My Father's 1967 "Self Wind" model still runs very well, as does this new version. It's an impressive looking watch, a bit heavy but one adjusts. It seems so far to be high quality, case, band etc. It keeps good time, as good as many more expensive automatics. For the price it is particularly great. Time will tell. If it's still running in 2059 I will be able to say they are making them like they use to.

This is a really nice watch. I like the overall appearance of the watch. As others have mentioned, the date display is a little on the tiny side, but I'm ok with that. My only real gripe is that the watch arrived with the band wrapped around a soft padding. The band on this watch is super stiff near the watch and it is taking some time to get some "curve" into the band so that it fits comfortably on my wrist. Overall, I like this watch and would buy again.

Surprised at how well constructed and solid this sub $100 Timex automatic feels on my wrist. So far, this piece has been keeping accurate time when compared to my Radio controlled quartz watch. The dial and bezel are also so pleasing to the eye with rose gold accents and a psuedo tourbillon exhibition cutout. We'll see how well this piece holds up as time goes on.

    UPDATE to original review:
I just got this watch and i like it alot, its a great looking piece that has gotten attention from co-workers, it's solid and sharp.
UPDATE-So i've only had this watch a couple months and noticed it was starting to lag behind on the time. A watch needs to keep time and this did not. So i sent it back to Timex and they could not fix it (did not give a reason why) and sent me a new watch, its nice but its a cheaper one (of course), it took about a month and a half for them to get my watch back (of should i say, my new cheaper watch)

In pictures this watch seems very appealing. In the flesh though I have to say that I am really not impressed by it. The watch is really thick so it is very awkward on the wrist and it pops out high above the strap. Also the silver markers on the bezel really contrast with the rose gold and it ends up looking very "cheap". The crown is a screw down crown but I feel it is very flimsily attached. Finally the open heart (which is why I got it) isn't decorated making it look very plain and unattractive. I returned it upon seeing it as I really didn't want this to be part of my collection. I can understand the temptation of this watch as it is a power reserve open heart at an affordable price, but for this price you can get other watches that have a more solid construction and look better.

Let me preface this by saying - 44mm is probably much larger than you think, and the lugs make the watch even larger (something I didn't think about). This is why I am returning it and buying a different watch which is smaller.

The movement is Chinese but it seems to be a Seagull ST-25 which is a very fine movement and you won't be disappointed.

The date is likely fairly hard to read if you don't have good near vision, and it will become useless for a few minutes more per hour than normal date displays.

This is a nice looking watch that appears to keep good time. One thought I think people should know is that the case is a little on the thick side. If you have small wrists you may want to consider something a little thinner.
