Long term review
on June 7, 2010
I think this is my first review here lol.
I purchased this watch back in october 2008 prior to one of my deployments to Iraq. I purchased this mainly for the Compass and the rubber wrist band. This actually replaced a different Timex compass watch of which I had gone through 3.
Upos first recieving this watch I was very happy with the rubber wristband and the compass. I actually use the compass for land nav and in cities when I get turned around. the wrist band is outstanding and very durable. The different functions are very easy to use, I never really used the hydration timer... but the 3 different alarms were very handy.
I got back from my deployment and went on vaction with my wife in 2010. We went to a beach area with salt water, where the watch died after bing in salt water everyday, and no it wasnt beyond the rated 330 ft, it was about 10 ft max.
Even though these watches only have a usefull life of about 2 years, I have gone through 4 now, I will continue to buy them rather than buying one of those gigantic pathfinders or Suuntos. The rubber wristband on this particular expedition compass watch is very sturdy and is probably one of my favorites of the different watchs I have broken... I really like the way these watches work but I just wish they were more durable... I guess I am kinda rough on them!
Hopefully this helps anyone who is considering purchasing this watch, I am buying another one today!
TIMEX rep if you are reading this , make the watch's weather seal more robust and replace the cheap bezel with a thicker high impact rubber one, yes I am referring to the G-shock type bezels.
