5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST watch...hands down.
I have had the absolute pleasure of having this watch for almost 4 years now. I am a nurse, and as such a good watch is a vital tool. This watch has survived hundreds of thousands of handwashings, being dropped in blood, amniotic fluid, IV fluid, saved my wrist from being crushed between a wall and a hospital bed, and even dropped down a 30 foot parking garage stairwell...

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch stopped
I like the watch and have since purchased another one however this one stopped after a couple weeks. I think I must have got a lemon. The one I bought since has worked great. I really like the Indiglo.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST watch...hands down., October 1, 2010
This review is from: Timex Men's T49271 Expedition Rugged Field SHOCK Analog Watch (Watch)
I have had the absolute pleasure of having this watch for almost 4 years now. I am a nurse, and as such a good watch is a vital tool. This watch has survived hundreds of thousands of handwashings, being dropped in blood, amniotic fluid, IV fluid, saved my wrist from being crushed between a wall and a hospital bed, and even dropped down a 30 foot parking garage stairwell once- no lie. It has survived being dropped, kicked, hit, thrown, and all manner of abuse my patients, family, and countless others have heaped upon it. It had come back unscathed from X-ray machines, radiant infant warmers (which get really HOT), soda, alfredo sauce, linguine, soup, cavi-wipes (bacteriocidal and viruscidal premoistened wipes), and every other harsh treatment heaped upon its poor existence.

The glass face is still scratch free, clean and as clear as the day I bought it, yet the metal casing has developed a well needed "rugged" look with just enough pits, dings, and gouges to make it look like it has "character." This watch is phenomenal...I haven't had to replace a battery yet- it doesn't lose time like some other brands that I have tried. I even shed a tear when it go boxed up in the move and I thought I had lost it. Thankfully, I found it- you wouln't want to see a grown man cry now would you?

I have a few nicer watches (read: dressy) but I always come back to this little gem. Well worth 3 times the price, but a perfect value at the 45-or-so-bucks it costs here. I grabbed mine from Target years ago and have truly found one of the best watches...ever. I've never owned a Rolex or a Tag Hauer...but after using and abusing this one and seeing how well it holds up- I have no desire to ever have a "designer" watch. Unlike some people, when this watch battery dies...Im not gettin a new watch, I am just gonna get a new battery and keep on keepin' on with the bad boy.

The indoglo is perfect for dark patient rooms, the glow-in-the-dark hands charge fast and glow long enough to get what you need done. The date feature is nice, but unnecessary. All in all, this watch is the perfect no-frills piece of equipment. It won't make coffee, find the north star, unlock a CIA safe, give directions, or tell you how far you walked...but it will tell time perfectly, stand up to abuse, and become your favorite watch in no time. And that is the God's honest-straight-up-no-fibbin'-truth. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cut Above, April 18, 2008

I have a slighly different version of this watch. Mine features a nice brushed stainless steel case with a polished bezel. It also has a rugged brown leather strap and features an ivory dial with black Arabic numerals. Aside from these appearance differences, everything else is the exactly the same. I compared the one shown here, side by side, with the model I eventually bought. Both were excellent, and in the end, my choice was simply one of personal preference.

In addition to the product description given, this model has a bronze finished stainless steel case and bezel. All of the rest is as described.

At the risk of sounding like a snob, I never thought to purchase a Timex, in spite of the brand's long standing reputation for reliability at affordable prices. Most of my watch collection includes higher priced heirloom quality brands and models. I purchased this one using a Gift Certificate given to me by my employer. In just a few days I have discovered that I am glad I did. So far it has not left my wrist.

This is a solid time piece. It appears outwardly to be well made and durable. I'm not sure how good the movement might be. Product specs reveal that the watch is made in the Phillipines and the strap is made in China.

Having said that, this is a good price for a shock-resistant and 100 Meter, (330 Ft), water resistant field watch. Timex, a world community manufacturer, has a great reputation for dependability and this is a good example of why. This is not a dive watch, but it is not intended to be one. It does one thing very well. It displays the time accurately and boldly, extremely readable in all light conditions, (The push-button "Indiglo" feature is awesome), and promises to be durable, rugged and well capable of providing years of faithful service in just about any kind of day to day use.

The case diameter is 40 to 42 MM depending upon where you measure it. The protective lugs at the knurled crown are a nice feature, usually found on more expensive brands and models. There is a rubber shock absorber between the stationary bezel and the case. Timex boasts a 10 year battery life, depending upon backlight usage. To my knowledge, no one else comes close to that with an analog quartz movement. If the watch lasts that long, it will have been worth the purchase price many times over. With a mineral crystal and well made leather band it really is a total package. This watch is manly in appearance, very comfortable on the wrist, and at a glance, it looks to be more expensive than it is. I have large wrists, but both models fit me comfortably with length to spare.

I am very happy with mine. If this is your style, you can't go wrong at this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, good looking, February 1, 2008
This review is from: Timex Men's T49271 Expedition Rugged Field SHOCK Analog Watch (Watch)
I received this watch as a gift. It has a solid metal case and a nice leather strap. The strap has a raised ridge that seems to help keep the leather from getting quite so kinked where the buckle hits it. The strap also has 2 small loops to keep track of the loose end of the strap.

The face is large and easy to read. The Indiglo, activated by pushing the crown, is clear and bright. It glows through the black face somehow, very readable. The glow in the dark hands are also sufficent for some low-light situations.

This has become my daily wear watch. The bezel is slightly raised above the crystal which keeps it remarkably cleaner and protects it from scratches.

As an avid outdoorsman, I can be tough on watches...This one met every expectation as Timex outdoor watches always have for me. I've been swimming in both fresh and saltwater. hiking, camping, hunting, fishing,...etc.etc....for many years. Recommend to anyone who spends their life in rugged terrain, and needs the reliability...They live up to their old moniker; "takes a licking and keeps on ticking"

This watch Is everything the previous reviewer states and more. I am completely happy with It. To the reviewer that bought 1 and It stopped working. That's only happened to me once ever and Timex replaced It. I mailed It to them In there postage free box and it's all free.
The slightly raised bevel DOES keep It cleaner and from getting scratched.
I know mine cost $49 so this Is a really good price. Never thought of Amazon for a watch but I'll check Amazon price against anyone from now on.
And It does look sharp and more expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch is Nice, September 23, 2009

This review is from: Timex Men's T49271 Expedition Rugged Field SHOCK Analog Watch (Watch)
I wanted a watch with a rugged and outdoor look and feel with large numbers and the ability to check the time in the dark, and I wanted to pay less than $100 for it. I found it with this watch. It looks good and it also operates just as described. I've worn Timex watches for going on 50 years now, and this reminds me of one I had as a young boy with the large numbers. No need to pay $200-$500 dollars for a watch that will last you for a few years of full-time wear. I'll wear this watch every day to work and to play, and when and if it stops, I'll probably go and buy another Timex. I'd suggest you try one of these on for size and feel. The band is of good quality and the weight of the watch seems perfect for everyday wear.

Nice watch, the only complaint is that the indigo feature should have been on top of the watch instead of the right side.Every time you bend your wrist the light goes on and stays on until you move, thus probably shortening the battery life, other than that I like it. It's attractive it looks and feels rugged and feels like a heavier more expensive watch,if you order it you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish but not flashy, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Timex Men's T49271 Expedition Rugged Field SHOCK Analog Watch (Watch)
I was looking for a casual watch and this one jumped out at me. The pictures do not do it justice. It's stylish but not flashy. This is a very simple watch and does an excellent job keeping time. The raised case reduces the chances of scratching the bezel, which is a common problem with most watches. If you're looking for bells and whistles, this is not the watch for you. If you're looking for quality and value, then I highly recommend this watch.

Very happy with the styling, the very bright Indiglo watch light, the visibility of the minutes markings and second hand and so far it keeps perfect time. I've had an expedition for so long that I can't remember - 10 - 15 yrs. I think. I like this one better than the previous version(s?). My experience has been that they last a long time and are trouble free. Don't sweat up the watchband too much; it's leather and will rot and break. Identical replacements are available online; I used 'Vogue'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Field Watch, May 5, 2010

This review is from: Timex Men's T49271 Expedition Rugged Field SHOCK Analog Watch (Watch)
This watch has all he basic requirements of an excellent field watch. It should be easy to read, and the face color and contrasting hands make this watch easy to read at a glance. That is not always the case with some supposed field watches. It should be readable in all light conditions, and with the "indiglo" function it is. It should hold up to reasonable shock, and should handle an occasional "dunking", and this watch should do that too.
However, the colors in the pictures presented are not accurate. The case is darker than pictured, and the band is a dark gray-green, not the brown shown. The watch face and hands are accurately pictured. I actually prefer color of the real thing over the pictures. It is also a bit of a "loud-ticker", but tolerable I think.
Overall, it's a classic watch that is true to the "Form Follows Function" design philosophy.

June 2011 Update: I've had this watch for a year now. It's my "old-reliable", especially on camping trips. It fell from a shelf onto a ceramic tile floor (about 6 ft.). The impact caused the back to pop off and the battery to fall out. I put everything back together and it works perfectly. Not a mark on it. Yep..."old-reliable".
