Size Matters !!!!!!!!!,

This review is from: Timex Men's T49617 Expedition Dive Style Watch (Watch)
The Amazon stock photo and sizing scale reflect a 38-40mm crown, but many have stated it is closer to 44mm, which is it? And a Diver's watch that leaks is just crazy. It is too bad because I like this watch with 44mm, it looks like a Seiko Orange Monster, though for an extra $120, I can get the real thing.
I would consider buying a fake diving watch if it was $45, then I would get a Yellow one (Expedition) and an Orange one (Diver's). If I was to really go for a dive, then I would take out the Orange Monster, that is too bulky for daily use anyways.

My current and fleeting favorite dive watch,

Despite wearing divers watches for 35+ years, nobody makes my ideal divers watch of today!
Which would be an automatic(self-winding) , mechanical day/date display, and with battery for illumination/indiglo. That way I'd probably get 5-10 years between battery changes and have the advantage of being able to tell the time in movie theatres, 3AM in bed, etc. That would be perfect but it doesnt exist. Have been using G-shocks for many years and between frequent battery failures(best to buy a new watch), watch band failure(best to buy a new watch), and just sometimes the internal computer going screwy;I even tried the ones with a 10 year battery and they were no better. I figured lately I have been buying a new one or repairing my watch(batteries/bands) about every 12-18+ months and it was just high time for a change. I miss the rotating bezel type of watches and these cheaper electric rotating bezel dive watches have some disavantages over more expensive ones. However, as a surprise on this one it has a flat crystal that is flush with the bezel, making it less likely to scratch over others that have a raised or domed crystal. The Timex indiglo feature is just adequate on this watch but is somewhat counterbalanced by a great quality application/selection of glow in the dark paint that they use. This will grow brightly in the dark well into the night hours. I find the date display adequate. No day display! A noted negative is that the O zero marker on the rotating bezel is a bit ambiguous and not marked by a big distinguishing arrow like most watches. This band has a little stub on the end of the dangling end that fits into the rubber wraparound. Keeps the dangling end secure. The orange face display is a bit out of the ordinary, but I find it at least fleetingly attractive at the moment.Excellent value for the $$. Best divers band on a watch. Once the band goes on the watch I probably wont like it anymore...I called Timex and ordered 2 original replacement bands.

Love this watch. It's Unique enough to get lots of comments. Its textured face makes it easy to read. The Indigo back light is nice and bright. The "Numbers" are very bright after only a short time in the light, making it easy to see at night. Its a good tough watch. Thanx Timex.

looks good, works not so good,
This review is from: Timex Men's T49617 Expedition Dive Style Watch (Watch)
Decent looking watch if a little large. Worked great until I got in the water, leaked and the light puttered out. Still works but has no light and a condensation issue. Think I'll have to junk it.

Purchased this watch three weeks ago at a manufacturers outlet mall. I really liked the appearance, size and weight. Very comfortable to wear, and it looks terrific. It worked great...for two days. Then, it began to change the date around 6:30 PM instead of near midnight, and the movement would stop around 7:30 or 8:00. I don't think it's a weak battery - the problem seems to be with the gearing. After a lot of fiddling, I was able to get the date to change closer to midnight - which now can be anywhere from 8:30 PM onwards, but the watch is still likely to stop running at least one every evening.
Lesson learned - Cheap watches are not good. Good watches are not cheap.

I bought this watch as a replacement after losing a Seiko divers watch with an orange face:
Seiko Automatic Diver's 200m Japan-made SKX011J1 SKX011J SKX011 I have to say, I liked the Seiko a little more than this one, it felt a little better. But the Timex is a nice looking watch that I'm happy to have.

Timex Dive Watch Keeps on Tickin',

I purchased a Timex Dive Watch T39617 prior to a Scuba diving trip to Costa Rica. After making my purchase I saw a number of reviews in this forum that complained that this watch leaked when under water. Following a practice dive in a pool, I got a scare because I thought I saw a drop of water in my watch. This of course was only the magnifying bubble for the date. Perhaps others made the same conclusion. In Costa Rica I made six dives, all exceeding 60 feet, which of course is nowhere close to the maximum depth for this watch but it performed perfectly and continues to do so. Considering this was not an expensive watch to buy, it has certainly performed everything that I hoped to get from it. I will be doing much deeper dives in the spring and will report how it performs at that time. It is a comfortable tough watch, particularly important as I farm and do a lot of work that ruins watches. If I have a complaint it is that the I find the numbers on the bezel could be made easier to read, particularly the start as I have trouble finding zero prior to descending in the water.
As an update I just completed a 100 foot dive and several 70 foot dives for my Advanced Scuba certificate and the watch performed perfectly with no leaks. I can only assume that those who found leaks mistook the magnifying drop for a drop of water or were unfortunate to have a defective item. For the money, my watch exceeded my expectations.

Timex T49617 Orange Face is a diver's life-light,

The T49617 has a face that is almost a 1/4" in diameter larger than my first Timex Expedition. The older Expedition has a yellow face and a smaller date window. The new Expedition has an orange face and a larger date window as well as, additional time notations on the face and is much easier to read down under. I was quite surprised in the weight factor between both time pieces;there was no difference! Both wrist watches are shock resistant and water proof to a depth of 200 meters. The price difference was only $65.00 for my latest Timex Timepiece and $15.00 less for my my first Expedition. Do yourself a favor, if you need a good, well working, all around dive watch, or a sturdy "shock resistant" watch buy the T49617. Like all Timex products, there is a one year warranty. If you are wise, within 30 days of purchase, send a check to Timex for the sum of $5.00 via snail mail for an additional 4 year warranty. Or one can use your cell phone and do the same with your favorite plastic plate. I have been a devoted Timex watch wearer for over 35 years. Everyone of my Timex's has either worked well past the warranty date or when I have had a problem, the company has replaced or repaired my Timex time pieces, no questions asked.

this is a great watch but it arrived much bigger than I expected. It's truly a man's-size watch, not unisex as some vendors list it. Otherwise it's a great watch though and at a great price - I wish it came in a smaller size!
