5.0 out of 5 stars Great Watch
I really like this watch. Looks even better in person than in pictures. Very rugged, masculine look and feel, definitely a guy's watch.

I'm not impressed by brand names like Tag Heuer, Omega, etc. I just don't care about image. To me, this watch looks as good as any, and it's dead accurate. The alarm and chronograph couldn't be easier to use, and I've...

1.0 out of 5 stars John Cameron Swasey would be quite chapped at this:
The watch is a little tough to see due to the orange-on-black design, and the chronograph is not a "base-10" choronograph, which is odd, but i still thought it was a nice watch. This watch, however, does NOT take a licking and keep on ticking. In fact, it does not take being treated well and keep on ticking. The watch has not just stopped, but the minute hand is now...

The alarm and chronograph couldn't be easier to use, and I've always liked Indiglo.

I delayed buying because I wasn't sure about the resin watchband. But, it's very comfortable and looks much better than I anticipated. When it wears out (I've heard that that they dry out and crack, much like an old tire), I'll probably go with a leather band at that point.

As usual, a high-quality watch from Timex.

I put this on my holiday wish list after seeing it in a magazine. As an runner, I generally need a lightweight digital but missed having an analog. I was looking for something nice looking, with some timer function and light enough to run with in a pinch. This watch fits the bill nicely. It looks even better than the photo. The timer is not that great for things longer than 30 min, but that's what the iPhone runkeeper app is for. The hands are not luminous at all, but the indiglo more than makes up for that. This will be my everyday watch!

I bought my first Luminox Navy Seals dive watch shortly after they came on the market, and it immediately became (and remains) my favorite watch in 50 years of being something of a watch fan. Rugged, reliable, lightweight, attractive, and a real boon for a nearsighted insomniac. I liked it so much that I bought another when the first one's battery had to be replaced (at the time a process requiring a lengthy return to a Luminox repair facility). Both watches served me very well and went through any number of watch bands. Then, inevitably, the Tritium illumination capsules began to dim, and I bought three more Luminoxes in fairly rapid succession. Rapid, because, quite frankly, they were junk, and all failed catastrophically in one way or another and proved to be more of a hassle and expense to fix or replace than I was willing to abide.

So, for those of you who lust after Luminox or one of their seemingly overpriced clones, caveat emptor. Greed eventually wormed its way into Toyota, so I guess there's no reason to believe that Luminox should be immune.

Pretty much in disgust, I made the impulsive decision (based on cosmetics alone) to buy the Timex Men's Expedition Trail, and except for the cheap and not very comfortable band (the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars) it has been an extremely pleasant surprise. It's a very attractive man's watch, not at all difficult to master, and its features are few but quite functional (for reasons explained above, I really like the Indiglo feature). If it proves to be accurate and survives my admittedly rough treatment, it's destined to replace Luminox in my affections (Timex, please don't discontinue this watch as the result of your marketing division's fashion/growth infection; some things deserve to stand the test of time.)

Needing a timepiece with a second hand I chose this one due to its plastic strap that is easy to clean and its orange on black color scheme (I'm partial to orange and I think most people like black). When I received it within a week of ordering I was surprised how heavy it was. I think the stainless steel case will prove to be very durable - but not at all light. I'm not sure how the black painted finish or plastic strap will hold up over time. The last black painted watch I had looked reasonably good, even after the paint started flaking off. I like the stopwatch and alarm features. I needed to read the instructions to understand the complexities of setting the time but they were simple enough to understand. I also like the nub at the end of the strap which keeps the loop from sliding - a nice detail. The indiglo backlight isn't as bright as on my last Timex watch but it is sufficient. I recommend this watch if time, date, alarm and stopwatch along with 100M water resistance is all you are looking for and weight is not a concern.

Works a bit different than other expedition watches with the quick-set alarm feature. Spin the lower right knob to set rather than the whole clock face. I've had a number of these over the years, and love the features on this line - and the quick-set knob/dial has always been the breaking point - this one seems to be a much more solid design. Will probably eventually replace the plastic arm band with a black metal one.

Pretty nice watch. Looks great. Keeps good time. Kind of hard to read the date but it has a nice solid feel and it's a good deal. Only time will tell if it holds up. So far so good!

The watch has not just stopped, but the minute hand is now stuck on twelve midnight. When you go to wind it, the hour hand moves and the minute hand is broken. I have neither abused nor dropped this watch, and it has not even been left in a damp area. It just stopped and broke, and now i cannot get a full refund because i had it for a month and a week. I buy dozens of items from Amazon every year, and i am surprised that they carry this shoddy a product. I should have read all the reviews first, not just some, as it seems this has happened to others. I will not be buying another Timex -- I just don't have time for the return/repurchase/lose my money process.

This review is from: Timex Men's T497469J Expedition Trail Series Chronograph with Alarm Black on Black Watch (Watch)
DO NOT BUY! This watch lookes awesome, is easy to use and feels solid, EXCEPT I returned my first purchase because the alarm was not going off when set (I tested it many times while awake). I then got a replacment from amazon at no charge. This one was working fine, until........ about a month and some days later, I was trying to adjust the time and the dial fell off the watch. It is now too late to return the watch for full cost to amazon. This watch has broken on me twice. It seemed great and then decided to break. DO NOT BUY! Iv had luck with timex before, but this is a piece of junk that looks and feels nice until it decides to become worthless!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch for the price, August 30, 2010

This review is from: Timex Men's T497469J Expedition Trail Series Chronograph with Alarm Black on Black Watch (Watch)
Call me old school but I still like an analog watch - save the digital watches for the kids. Because I wanted a weatherproof watch for mountaineering and backpacking that also had an alarm - this watch fits the bill. Worn it swimming and on Mt. Rainier when the driving rain from Camp Muir to the lodge soaked through the shell and my clothing. No problems at all.

The only thing that could make this better is if the hands were self illuminating so that you could see it in the dark without having to press the back light button.

This review is from: Timex Men's T497469J Expedition Trail Series Chronograph with Alarm Black on Black Watch (Watch)
This is an excellent watch that does not pretend to be anything other than a useful day to day watch. It is not encumbered by a leather strap and can be used without much consideration to use (in water) or weather (rain). Alarms take a wee bit of getting used to. Definite man watch. The wife can borrow some of my watches in a pinch but not really this one. I had the watch shipped to Sweden (model unavailable in Sweden). Shipping charges were higher than expected for such a relatively small and lightweight item. I would have expected any sales tax to have been zeroed and the application of shipping charges would have resulted in a broadly neutral export price - not to be. And I had to pay taxes in Sweden.
