Product Description

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

The revolutionary Chronograph Compass is a sophisticated style that combines maximum performance expected from an adventure instrument with Intelligent Quartz™ technology. The six-hand movement features a fly-back four-hour chronograph, electronic compass with magnetic declination compensation and a second time zone.

Overall it is a good watch and very cool looking.

I would like the numbers on the fly-back arcs to be a bit easier to read but with a bit of squinting I can make it out.

I had a very unique Timex watch that got a lot of compliments.

I do a lot of sailing and wanted a watch with countdown features on the stopwatch. I also wanted a nice dress watch. This watch does both exceedingly well. It is vastly cheaper than most others in the yachting fraturnity and is built beautifully well. Highly recommended :-)

At first I felt a little trepidation on spending almost $200 for a Timex. My reservations were unfounded. Love the watch, the quality and the value. I am a watch fanatic and own many, many watches valued from ten to several thousand dollars; this Timex is one I wear very often.

They did a great job designing this watch. I need something that looks cool and also shows the date. I also like that the second hand actually moves and is not for the stopwatch. Watch YouTube to see how the compass works, and glance at the manual, too. From that point on, everything is straightforward.

Very impressive watch from Timex, I like everything about this watch - except the fact that the Indiglo does not work. I have read the documentation several times and I am unable to get the Indiglo night light to work. I am considering returning the watch - I miss the indiglo light on my watch.

After contacting Amazon, they promptly replaced the watch with one that had the Indiglo night light that worked! Great timepeice, I highly recommend this watch.

I ordered this watch basically for its look online. I am old enough to remember John Cameron Swaze (sp.)drilling "It take's a licking and keeps on ticking" So I bought it for the history and looks. Man was I pleased when it arrived. It is very beautiful. I have dozens of watches and this one is up there with the "pretiest" It keeps great time. I cannot report how durable it is but it feels somewhat heavy suggesting durable. The band is nice and rich feeling as well. I love this watch, you will to!

I am a Timex fan and was very interested in this watch. It has a ton of features and I tested all of them with much satisfaction. However the Indigo light would not work. The "stem" was frozen and would not actuate it. On a different note, I found the face much harder to read in daylight that I expected. I have since ordered a different Timex. 3 stars for the seller who promptly handle the issue.

Very nice watch. Probably does more than my husband needs, but it's a great buy. The only issue I can see is that it twists a bit on the wrist and needs time to time adjusting. Otherwise, great product.

I got this watch at 25% off so that probably colors this review. It has 4 separate motors and can drive four hands at once. The aluminum bezel is really, really cool. This is a copy of the TX German brand design, it's Timex ripping off its own high-end German division, this watch is made in the Philippines.

Unfortunately the chronograph / compass black/white hand at 12 and 6 can cause you to misread the time; you learn to look twice! I have left work 1 hour early because I thought it was 6pm! Furthermore, the hands are sometimes hard to see (white against a white background), and the compass can be little flakey. So because of readability issues and wonky compass I am giving it only 4 stars instead of 5.

The watch could be 1mm thinner. The bezel is vertically at least 4mm, and I would prefer a 12mm watch rather than a 13mm watch (NOTE: SPECS ARE WRONG, AMAZON!). The leather band is rather retro. The indiglo nightlight is idyllic. The watch has a small buzzer and I wish they would program the computer to implement an alarm. Since it's quite a smart computer, they could also program the computer to perhaps set the month via the date, so I wouldn't have to keep adjusting the date every month, oh well ...

The coolest thing about this watch is that in chronograph mode all the hands move independently under computer control and so when you take splits the seconds hand zips back to zero (actually, 1, 2, 3... depending upon how long it takes to get there) and keeps going. I don't know why it took 20 years for anyone to come up with this! It's great to have a retro watch that can do cool new tricks!
